Hi

- macbook 12 inch, Catalina

Problem:
My keyboard has a stuck key I can't seem to clean enough that makes using the keyboard impossible. I have an external Bluetooth keyboard. My wifi will not work also so I can't download any third party apps.

Question.
1. Is there a way to disable the keyboard?

2. Once disabled... How would I enable it?

Thanks. Ken.

There's a free keyboard replacement program covering every single Apple laptop ever released with that dreaded broken-by-design Butterfly keyboards. You might be eligible for a brand-new keyboard.

The 12" MacBook was the first with butterfly keyboard, in 2015. Early models are out of four year warranty now but worth trying.

Incidentally I have had three of them no keyboard probs. Still have 2017.

Thanks for both responses. I happen to be in a govt lockdown in the Philippines with no way to get to any apple store for the next 30-45 days.... Was hoping to find a solution to the problem.

I see. Well, I don't know of any way to disable the keyboard in software, sorry. That said you don't need to disable it in order to use an external keyboard. Does the stuck key continue to issue key presses? Is that why you need to disable it?

Hey Mj. Thanks for responding...

Yes. The stuck key makes it so I can't use the Bluetooth keyboard. I'd read onine using Shift + Fn1 would disable the keyboard. But I didn't read how to re-engage it.... Hesitant to disable unless I know nuw how to turn it back on.

Was hoping to find someone who might have done this before.
