Convergence for the sake of convergence makes for a lousy product where each function is much worse than the products it replaces. Not everything is destined to be converged.

Maybe some day there will be some sort of Apple convertible but not next year. And IMO it won't look like anything the Windows OEM's have made.

Did you read the opening post? OSX when docked, and iOS as a tablet is the theory. This sounds like it's pretty well thought out. It's not any less functional than having an iPad and a MacBook. Also, you never said anything about next year, and neither am I. I'm merely responding to your comment about 'What would be the point of this?'

Actually, this type of convergence, while not popular to the masses, has appealed to quite a lot of people as proven by the Ubuntu Edge and its record breaking fundraising.

What's proposed by the OP isn't exactly as portable, but it could make way for a more versatile iPhone. The 'desktop-class' processor is a step in the right direction.
