New Mac Studio - An update for the Mac Studio should arrive in the middle of the year, but no external changes are expected. The refresh should see an update to the M5 Max chip and either an M4 or M5 Ultra chip.

This recent change to saying "M4 or M5 Ultra" is disturbing. It'd be really off-putting if Apple released another Mac Studio Ultra with an obsolete chip like they did with the M3, particularly with the M5 architecture being so powerfully optimized for AI and the Studio Ultra being their highest RAM capacity machine, ideal for those tasks.

I wouldn't be surprised if they also updated the Mac Pro with 3 optional accelerator cards that would de facto be additional mini Studios with an internal fast connection for the local LLM folks not willing to build a rack. This would be a very clean way to create datacenter like compute power in a desktop tower form factor.

Imagine a 4TB RAM machine...

Looking forward to seeing the new iMacs. Want to see a bigger one but highly unlikely that it will happen this year. Hope the new colors are bright and that Apple does not tone it down. Also looking forward to seeing the first foldable from Apple. Again with rumors pointing to lack of telephoto lens, not sure whether I will get one.

There have also been rumours of one or more Apple security cameras and an Apple FaceID doorbell.

If - and to me it feels like an ever increasingly big if - Apple can actually get improved Gemini-based Siri released this year that would seem to me to be an appropriate point to do a a big smart-home focussed event where it announces not only the relevant products mentioned in this article (the updated Apple TV, the updated HomePod Mini and the new Smarthome Hub) but also, if the rumours are true and any of them actually exist, those other rumoured camera products that I just mentioned in this post.

I currently use a combination of Amazon devices and Google/Nest devices plus a various other bits of home automation stuff. I'm really hoping that Apple does do some sort of smart-home event to announce a bigger push into that market, and that the new Siri can deliver, because I've wanted to clean up and rationalise my smart home stuff for a while now and I would be very willing to move everything to an Apple Home & HomePod based setup if Apple can deliver with the hardware and crucially can deliver with how the new Siri performs as a smart assistant for the HomePods.

There's no such thing as a m4 ultra because the interconnects don't scale properly which is why the Mac Studio got the m3 ultra last go around.
