12" PB won't run on Battery alone??????

Hello,
A coworkers 12" PB will not run off the battery. As soon as she removes the power cord it shuts off. New working battery was purchased and used.
Any ideas?

Does it see the battery when plugged in?

Is this by any chance a Rev A. PB 12"? Reason I ask is cause my wifes 12" gave her weird problems like that, she wanted to toss it in the trash.
