Anyone else notice a uneven amount of light leaking around the camera housing when the flashlight is on?

Seems like some shoddy engineering to have random streaks of light coming out of the camera housing.

Crappy pic but hope it conveys my concern.

Good to see that I’m not the only one. 😬

Still not reassuring that all the light is leaking around the camera housing. Just doesn’t seem right and I’ve never seen a phone to do so either.

The light is so bright I can’t even look in the general direction of it. I’ll have to keep that in mind when pointing it toward people or animals.

I can’t really tell if I’m looking at light bleed or reflections because like you I need to put my thumb over it to see it.

I actually noticed that tonight. It does seem to be a bit odd. I have rays of light shining out at a couple places when I cover the flash on my Graphite iPhone 12 Pro. I thought it was maybe off, but I’m not sure. I wonder if the 11 also had differences with the flash compared to the iPhone X or XS.

Yea the X was perfectly fine with the light shining outwards and that’s it. Just can’t see how this is intentional.

I think it’s just because the whole camera bump is glass now. The iPhone X camera had a stainless steel rim on the edge and the glass around the flash was black. Therefore, you couldn’t see any light through it.

I’m thinking all iPhone 12s will have some light show this way.

Do people study their phones looking for any possible reason to complain? Light leakage around the flash? Christ on a bike.

Not sure WTF that saying is attempting to covey but you’re what’s known as sheep.

Just take things the way they’re given to you and move on... which is what you should’ve done with this thread..

I don’t think my opinion on this makes me a ‘sheep’, more like a pragmatist.

I saw what I thought was a rather silly complaint concerning something most of us would never notice, let alone worry about. That doesn’t mean I’m a form of animal.

I agree that some get way to anal about things. The same thing happens in other hobbies/interests. I used to have high end watches before the Apple Watch, and it can be hard to not expect complete perfection from something that costs 6 figures. The reality is that, using a loupe (magnifying glass), you can almost always find something to be annoyed with on a mass-produced item.

I think everyone has to find a healthy level of tolerance with things. Otherwise, you’ll never be happy with anything.

Edit: not saying this to criticize the OP. I think it’s reasonable to look things over with the naked eye and make sure things are as expected. We’re dropping a lot of money on these, and it’s fair to expect high quality.

You should return it ASAP

I can’t tell if you’re kidding or not...

OP, I’d recommend that you let it go. I’m almost certain that the exact same effect will be present on most/all iPhone 12 Pros. As I said, the camera bump is made of glass this time and doesn’t have a steel bezel around it like the iPhone X and XS had.

If you exchange it, you might actually end up with a real defect... not worth playing the lottery. That’s just my opinion.

Not a 12 series but my 11pm does the same. Never had an issue. Camera flash, everything works fine.

I love to play an ambiguity game

No, it is not. It is by design. It is true tone flash. It has both White and Amber LEDs, so it can adjust according to the surroundings for a more natural light. But since you are most likely checking with the flashlight function, you only activate the white LED.
