Has anyone else noticed their iPhones are unlocking with Face ID with a mask on? Mine has been doing it the last few weeks oddly enough. I have the 12 Pro Max if that matters.

It’s hit or miss. I’ve experienced the same thing. After a while, it as though the phone adapts to your mask. Sometimes, it will work for a few days and then revert to me needing to remove my mask for it to work.

What kind of mask are you using? If it’s clear or small, it makes sense that it would. I would recommend clearing out your current face scans and set it up again.
 
I've learned that if you pull the mask down to about 1/4" below your nose, the face id works every time.

I wear a black solid one that says SPACEBALLS THE FACEMASK in white lettering

Mine is now back to not working with the mask as of yesterday lol
 
YES, I came here to see if others were having this issue. Today it would unlock - with my sunglasses and face mask on...covering my nose, 1/2 my cheeks (also a baseball hat pretty much covering my forehead if that matters). This is the 2nd time this has happened since Feb.

Right now, the "solution" seems to be a reboot of the phone...I did this the 1st time, did it again after seeing this unlocking issue again. After that, then the Face ID seems to NOT unlock with face mask on.

*Also, it's a simple black face mask, no patterns or writing on it.
 
This happened to be for the first time today. I was in the store and was looking up the location of an item. I got my phone out of my pocket and was ready to put in my passcode but the phone was already unlocked. I didn’t even notice it unlocking and was very confused. It hasn’t worked with a mask since, so I’m not sure why it worked this one time

Very odd. I rebooted my phone last night - which "fixed" the Face ID w/ mask. But it was unlocking the phone with my mask on this morning. I don't know??? It's random.

I've seen a few here state the Face ID learns my face with the mask. Doesn't make a darn bit of sense though. I would like to see if my friend can unlock my phone with HIS mask on.
