So the reviews speak for them self.

the difference of the cqmera is almost non-existent and the phone is huge.

what do you say to the difference between 12 pro and 12 pro max? And most the Comments about the camera that looks more like a marketing stunt?

i do not really think some speak for 12 pro max over 12 pro?

add: what do i use telephoto lens for? if I hold a finger on my wide lens and switch to telephoto, then iPhone does not change camera?

Obviously none of us are speaking with personal experience yet, but the reviews vary a bit on the difference between the Pro and Pro Max cameras. I don't think saying the difference between the two is "almost non-existent" captures every reviewer's take. MKBHD came down on this end of the spectrum, but others such as Matthew Panzarino thought the difference was substantial:

"The iPhone 12 Pro already delivers impressive results year on year, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max leapfrogs it within the same generation."
Arun Maini reaches a similar conclusion, and even argues that going the 12 Pro to 12 Pro Max difference is bigger than 11 Pro to 12 Pro. That seems a stretch based on other reviews, but there it is. So, I would say the consensus is more like "the Pro Max has slightly better cameras which won't be noticeable in most settings (e.g. outdoors in good light), but are significant in certain circumstances".

Beyond the cameras, there's slightly better battery life, and well, some people just plain old like big phones.

For the wife and I, it was all about the bigger screen. I'm currently on a Google Pixel 4XL. It has a 6.3 inch diagonal screen, but the body overall is near identical to the Max (it fits in the Pro Max case with a tiny bit of wiggle room). Going to a larger screen at 6.7inch with same form factor is great. At my age, I either need to get longer arms, reading glasses or a bigger screen.

I’m a big media consumer on my phone so that bigger screen and much better battery life is worth the extra $100 for me. Even though the 12 PM’s camera is only “slightly” better than the 12 pro, it’s still a great camera. But I was more interested in the bigger battery and screen.

The 12 Pro Max camera shows (slightly) better details in low light than the 12 Pro, and has quicker night focus. The consensus is that if you want the Max for the camera alone it's not worth it. However bundled with a bigger battery and screen, the Max more appealing.

Im in it for battery life and screen size. I consume a lot of content on my phone and send a lot of emails. I think every phone since 2018 have amazing phones and I can't see a difference in my don't really care eyes.

Bigger screen and better battery life are what my wife and I appreciate. The camera upgrade, even if minimal, is also to our liking. We take a lot of photos.

I'm not really a professional photographer so to be honest I wouldn't even notice the camera differences... I just take videos and photos and they look fine to me lol.... What I do want is the bigger screen real estate, the better resolution and the longer battery life.... I have long fingers so the size doesn't bother me at all.

Lets not forget about the:

For me that’s another bonus .... I will be interested to see the speeds and coverage where I am .... but don’t really need it as I have very decent (500mb) broadband at home for anything I need to sync or download.

I’m getting it for the largest possible display and battery. Smartphone cameras have surpassed my own personal needs generations ago. I wouldn’t spend extra money on a phone just for an even better camera.

I just wish that the bigger screen meant seeing "more". Example would be more app icons on the home screen, maybe multi-tasking capability, and more content, not just "bigger." This is just a wishlist though, since I'm still going for the pro max!

The telephoto camera has bad low light performance. If the camera system detects that there’s not enough light for the telephoto camera to produce a better shot than a digital zoom of the wide camera, it’ll use the wide.

Supposedly this happens if the sensor doesn't detect enough light from the telephoto lens, you'd get better quality from the main camera so it simply crops that instead, the pro max gets more light so it doesn't deactivate the telephoto lens as quickly as the 12 pro does.

Slightly better battery? It’s like 3 hours more than the regular pro
