At least for the max, I really wish Apple had incorporated split screen multitasking!

Either way, I’m excited for the Max for the battery and generous screen estate!!

Slightly better battery? It’s like 3 hours more than the regular pro
Indeed. I’ve noticed that a lot what people debate on here is often comes down to parsing adjectives! Are the cameras ‘slightly’ better or ‘much‘ better? It depends on what you mean by ‘slightly’! (And how much the specific feature in question matters to to you).

Glancing at a couple of reviews/tests the Pro Max seems to have an 10-18% advantage. To my mind and for my usage, that’s slight (though certainly at the upper end of ’slight’). I.e. nice to have (and one of the reasons I chose it), and really handy in certain circumstances, but not transformational in how I use it. Like, I’m still not going to go on an overnight trip without a charger. But if you prefer another adjective, please be my guest!

I've been a Max (Plus) iPhone owner since the original 6 Plus. But I went with the regular Pro this year, even though I love photography. I decided I was done owning a phone that is a bit too big for my hands and is a big heavy surfboard crammed into my pocket. It's been a couple weeks now with this new phone, and I'm not missing the large phone size much. The regular Pro feels terrific in the hand, is substantially lighter, and is easier to get in and out of my pocket. It is also easier to take pictures with, because it's easier to hold in various positions.

If the Max feels comfortable for you, by all means go for it. If it doesn't, I really don't think the camera advantages are enough to justify the inconvenience for most people. The Pro still has amazing cameras for a phone that are a big leap above the iPhone Xs Max that I came from.

I came from Note 20 Ultra to the 12 pro. Was just disappointed with the battery life on the Note, decided to try the iPhone again. Was tempted to wait for the Max but wanted to go smaller phone also. The Note was kind of big with its 6.9 inch screen. The 12 pro 6.1 inches is a perfect size to hold IMO. It fits in pocket easily and easier to use. Also surprised how good the 12 pro battery life is compared to the Note. It's literally 30% smaller battery and still gets me through the day. Although, that 120Hz screen on Note was truly amazing, especially powering it on that big screen.

Obviously none of us are speaking with personal experience yet, but the reviews vary a bit on the difference between the Pro and Pro Max cameras. I don't think saying the difference between the two is "almost non-existent" captures every reviewer's take. MKBHD came down on this end of the spectrum, but others such as Matthew Panzarino thought the difference was substantial:

"The iPhone 12 Pro already delivers impressive results year on year, but the iPhone 12 Pro Max leapfrogs it within the same generation."
Arun Maini reaches a similar conclusion, and even argues that going the 12 Pro to 12 Pro Max difference is bigger than 11 Pro to 12 Pro. That seems a stretch based on other reviews, but there it is. So, I would say the consensus is more like "the Pro Max has slightly better cameras which won't be noticeable in most settings (e.g. outdoors in good light), but are significant in certain circumstances".

Beyond the cameras, there's slightly better battery life, and well, some people just plain old like big phones.
Right.....Let me sort of piggy back on what you are saying. The more experienced a photographer you are....the more you will see a noticeable difference between the 12 Pro and the 12 Pro Max. An experienced photographer will bring out all the things such as lighting, back lighting, close ups and distance. But for an amateur photographer, I would recommend on getting the ProMax if you like a big screen, but don't do it for the camera.
