Hi all,

iPhone 12 Pro owner looking to upgrade to a 13 model. The battery health has taken a fairly big hit lately -- went from 95% to 93% in less than two weeks. (yikes!)

I had the iPhone 13 Pro for less than 48 hours, but returned it. Not sure if I gave up on it too quickly. Reasons due to (1) the weight (slight forearm and pinky discomfort) and (2) the camera bump. Perhaps I needed to give it more time to adjust to those two things.

The iPhone 13 has intrigued me, but does it make sense to go from the 12 Pro to the iPhone 13 or do I give the 13 Pro another shot with a long adjustment period? (Understanding it is all subjective to the individual.)

Thanks in advance!

PS - The 13 mini form factor seems great, but it sounds like the battery life is a lateral move from the 12 Pro...and maybe a little too small for me?

IMO 95% to 93% is not a reason to get rid of a phone.. If a battery lasts 2-3 years it's done it's job and deserves a replacement. As far as choosing a phone, your the one that has to use it so not sure how asking random people on a forum if you should but one or the other is relevant. Some people don't have an issue with weight or size and some do. Sounds like your the latter. Maybe the regular 13 is what your looking for

The way I see it, there are only three things to consider between the 13 (or mini) and the 13 Pro (or max):

Telephoto lens
Macro photography
Weight (and size)

There are other things, of course. Lots of people love ProMotion. The battery is better on the Pros but from what I hear the batteries on the 13 and the mini are significantly better than the 12...going from "bad" to "ok." Besides the lenses, the photo processing is a little better on the Pros, but the 13s have great cameras!

But those things don't enable you to do things with the Pro that you can't do with the 13. Only the telephoto, macro photography, and weight. If you buy the 13 you will never have them. The 13 Pro and Pro max are heavy. They will never be light. So those are the three things, I think, you have to have an opinion on.

(To be fair, you can get external lenses to put on the 13 or mini to get telephoto, if one considers that an option.)

If the problem is the battery, Apple will replace it for $69, no NEED to buy a new iPhone (https://support.apple.com/iphone/repair/service/battery-power).

Now, if you WANT a new iPhone, then I would consider the iPhone 13 Pro. Choosing the iPhone 13 Pro over the iPhone 13 is a much more compelling proposition than choosing the iPhone 12 Pro over the iPhone 12. And the iPhone 12 Pro has some high-end features which the iPhone 13 lacks, including more premium materials.

My suggestion: either go with the iPhone 13 Pro or have your battery replaced.

I have my own opinions (I have a regular 13), but I don’t think the issues that were originally a concern for you with the 13 Pro will go away. The phone isn’t going to get lighter. I’d move on and find the next option for you.

Thank you for the response. Sounds like if battery is my main reason to upgrade, it is not a worthwhile investment.

All great points to think about. Now I’ve got it narrowed down to the 13 Pro or keeping my 12 Pro. Thank you for responding to my post.

Your suggestion makes complete sense. I am going to focus on these to things to make my decision. Thank you for your input.

This is the biggest puzzle in my head…will my original concerns change over the course of a week or two. They very well not. Thank you for your take on the situation.
