I had to restart mine once to get it to work. First time it wouldn’t go past the activation screen. Second time it activated within a couple of seconds.

Anyone having trouble activating their Verizon iPhone 12 pro ? Several people on reddit are experiencing this

I thought I'd come here to lean more but didnt see any threads about it having trouble with the the 5G SIM card.

I had a small issue with the cellular service but I rebooted and it was fine. I just had to make sure my old phone was powered down before I powered up my new one.

In terms of physical sim activation, I've been told that Verizon's system has experienced a few crushes from too many people trying to activate at once, causing a backlog of activations in their internal system.
As for esim, don't even get me started...
Seriously though, I didn't have a 5G VZW sim on hand, so I went to the corporate store and picked one up, they were able to activate it right away for me. As others have mentioned, be sure to power off your old phone first.

I purchased a Verizon iPhone 12 pro from Apple, but I'm really not sure what that means, it has a Verizon 5G SIM, but does that mean it will activate automatically ? I didnt do my due diligence and wasn't really prepared about what to do. I turned on the new phone and followed the steps to transfer all the data from my old phone. That process worked fine. I then popped the SIM from my old phone into the new phone and that worked but I realized the new SIM had 5G written on it, so I switched them back.
If I turn off my old phone and then turn on my new phone, will the new phone attempt to activate on its own or is there something I need to do ? I tried the activation procedure on the Verizon website, but it just hangs up. The reddit thread I referenced in the OP talks about needing to have an Unlimited plan which I dont have. Does anyone know if this is a necessity ?

Hi

this has been very aggravating. It seems that VZ cannot activate our phones and has advised us to return them to Apple.

it seems there are multiple pending equipment orders, linked to our phone numbers, in Apple’s database, which VZ has access to. VZ has contacted Apple and it seems neither side can resolve the issue.

I have been on the phone with many levels of tech support and nobody can fix this. The only option seems to be to return the phones. This sucks.

Did you try using the sims from your old phones. I purchased a 12 Pro sim free from Apple and just swapped out sim from old phone to new phone. Works great. I have no use for 5G. Set to LTE in settings.

Bummer. I don’t mean this at all as an I-told-you-so, but, this is why I’m very happy to pay Apple full price for SIM free and activate the device on my own. I know that may not be possible on CMDA though.

I’m not sure it’s this simple on CMDA.

So does this mean that other people have used your phone number to order the new phones ???

VZ advised us the not use the old sim. They said that a new sim was specifically developed for the new phones. Several levels of tech support advised us not to use the old sims.

Yes it works by simply moving your old Verizon SIM to the new iPhone. Every year I buy the SIM free version direct from Apple and I have moved the same VZ SIM card from the iPhone X to iPhone 11 and now to the iPhone 12. Not sure if original poster is talking about new activation or activation from another wireless provider.

I had success at a physical store, stood outside in the rain but at the end of the day the phone works, got a new sim with a 5g logo on it, although I think the old ones work just fine too for non mm-wave 5g access. telephone reps have been useless so far.

If your old sim still works, best advice I can give is to keep using it until VZW gets their system fixed. 5G isn't that amazing anyway, give it a week or so and try activating your new sim then. You'll need to activate the new sim number either on your online account, by chat, by phone, or going to a store.

I have no idea. Both Apple and VZ talked. Both identify the errors in the data base. Neither side can resolve them. I had lots of trouble with pre-ordering and I had to repeat steps over, so that may have contributed to this. Since I cannot even activate my own phones, I doubt if anyone else could.

Same wireless provider. Just trying to activate VZ phones purchased through Apple.

Certainly worth trying if nothing else seems to be working. It should work fine, or perhaps would at least work as far as getting the phone activated and then if another SIM is needed in relation to 5G support or something like that it can likely be adjusted afterwards.

LOL. All they want to do is charge you an activation fee. Your old SIM will work. Probably won't have 5g but it will work with 4g.

your old sim cards will work it just might not be able to get the MMwave 5G is what i have been told but they should still work for LTE and possibly Sub 6 5G. try going in a store like others have suggested. just try the old sim i think you would be surprised, my old sim from my 11 pro max worked fine in my 12p. im also on verizon

I scheduled a call with a Verizon rep and she talked me through the activation process and my new phone is working fine so far. I did have to upgrade my plan to a 5GB plan, she said that would give me Nationwide 5G. Upgrading to Unlimited would have been an additional $90/mo for our two line plan. Maybe Verizon has things sorted out now ?

It just doesn’t let you use ultra wideband. I was using my Verizon sim from an 11 Pro since Friday and it was working fine in my 12 Pro. Barely switched to a 5G sim a couple of days ago.

Not sure about you guys with using existing SIM, but when I inserted my old sim that came with on 11 PM, I had no issues with services, however, I could not send MMS or take pictures from the messaging (I have friends who aren't iPhone users so it's green texts). After getting 5G sim, I am now able to send MMS and take pictures within the message to that friends who uses android. YMMV.

Back on topic: Odd issue to have. This is why I always buy sim-free model.

I purchased a SIM free 12P from Apple and popped my VZW SIM into it, coming from my Xs Max. No issue whatsoever, everything is working as expected and no 'upgrade fee' from VZW.

My iPhone is active in the esim with Verizon. Pop in your old sim, call customer service and have your account transferred to the esim, then remove your physical sim and pitch it.

Some of us aren't that lucky. Verizon's system doesn't recognize our digital IMEI either
