Downgrade for customers, but upgrade for tight Tim who will shave dollars off the costings just for the sake of his shareholders.

Apple Marketing at its best,..talk up titanium as the worlds greatest and lightest alloy, then delete it for the sake of a few dollars in savings.
If this rumour is true, something major must be going with Apple's titanium supply.

Even from a "cost-cutting" perspective, it makes no sense to drop all that money into R&D, procurement/supply, and construction of/with titanium and then drop it only 2 years later.

Downgrade for customers, but upgrade for tight Tim who will shave dollars off the costings just for the sake of his shareholders.

This is all so boring. Wait 2026 for a downgrade to an aluminum casing, more RAM and a rectangle camera bump? That’s serious innovation

A downgrade in casing might be necessary to maintain the current price point in the face of the supposed 10% tariff on Chinese goods the next US administration is threatening. So, don't blame Tim.

Yes, "Fiasco"...as in, how are you enjoying that Apple Intelligence that the iPhone 16 was advertised with? Oh wait, it's not ready for prime time and is delayed. Selling tons of new iPhones with phantom features is not a practice Apple should be using.

Whenever I’m writing something a bit complex, I rely on the proofreading and rewriting tools. They help me catch typos and grammar errors, and they can also help me simplify complex sentences.

So, to answer your question directly, I’m thoroughly enjoying Apple Intelligence. It is a lot easier than using an LLM app and then doing the copy/switch-app/paste/query/copy/switch-app/paste shuffle.

After a week with a 16, coming from an 8, I can tell you this: I'll wait for an iPhone without any silly "island".

The Dynamic Island is a silly feature. Apple is trying to make the best of the bad situation of still needing a notch. If I were in charge, I would have nixed it because it adds too little and creates inconsistencies across devices. Besides the UI inconsistency, it also introduces additional code, which makes more work for developers and increases the chances of bugs.

That said, I’ve grown accustomed to the useful notifications I get in the Dynamic Island. I will probably be disappointed when it’s removed when I upgrade the phone in a few years. This is another reason Apple should have passed on the idea. It made half the users critical when it was added. Since it is temporary, half the users will be upset when it is no longer necessary. I was in the first group. Now that I find the feature useful, I'll probably also be in the second group.

Aluminum seems to be a downgrade to me.

It really does. There has to be some sort of method to this madness lol

Right? They made such a big deal out of titanium and now they will use the material that non pro iPhones have for years? Doesn’t really make sense to me.

Aluminum overall lighter than titan.???

My guess is yes simply because aluminum foil comes to mind first when I think alum. Hah

Does article seriously list aluminium as feature to wait for? Any explanation? It absorbs impact better? Or will be reinforced?

I do not follow Android world. Can anyone list some new real inovations we see on Android side beside fast charging, 10x zoom and stylus?

That’s interesting “reinforced?”…hmmm (really wish we had a thinking emoji 🧐)

What if it was reinforced (only
Makes sense to me if alum. IS lighta than titan.). This makes it “the most durable iPhone ev.)… but that would seemingly take away from Apple care cases and out of pocket screen /body fixes…

When the case is made from Transparent Aluminum, I will purchase. Until then my 13 Pro is working fine.

Yikes I just came from 14 PM 2 16 PM and lemme tell you…those old pros were HEAVY. Such a great QOL update the titanium…you shouldn’t wait for next yr just grab a 16 pro ..weight, spatial vids/pics, AI, battery, great zoom, usbc, great heat management, awesome microphone, etc.

iPhone 1 through the 6s, I agree some solid updates every year. The next jump after the 6s was the iPhone X. After that the iPhone 12 with 5g. After that the iPhone 14 with esat. After that the iPhone 16 with apple intelligence.

I actually would add 15 pro to your list because of spatial capture capability for the first time some plus AI…then 16 cuz it has spatial vid and pics plus full AI suite when ready, biggest screen ever, 120/4k, camera button for blazing fast camera access, and biggest zoom yet by a wide margin on an iPhone.

I'm thinking you're being generous giving it three generations to see something meaningful. I moved from an iPhone 7 to 15Pro, and aside from the camera improvement, loss of the touchid and breathing room with a bit more RAM, there wasn't much different. I think that seven year gap, the CPU performance increases are negligible, with RAM being the main benefactor of helping with load and render times. Maybe the gamechanger being magsafe and USB-C? NFC on both devices, iOS 15 to 17 showed very little difference.

Don’t forget to take some spatial captures w ur 15 pro camera!!! Thank me lata…

Did you notice a battery life improvement?

Doubt it lol

I went from an 8 plus I unboxed myself to 12 pro I did likewise and my old 8 battery was on the exact same level as my new 12 pro. Smh

I was speechless. Smh

It took only a couple days and I realized it was for real and I was duped. I thought “pro, oh yeah let’s do this”…if I read reviews at that time I would’ve seen people saying max’s have the best battery life
4. optical image stabilisation (OIS) in the non-Plus iPhone,

WHAAAAAAAT??!!!?!?!?…coulda sworn that was new on 13 or 14 pros…and you say not even the pro model had it?…that’s the feature where when taking a video the camera stays steady so footage isnt too shaky?

Don't want/need a Pro, do want an always-on-display.

Skipped the 16 for this reason. Currently, the 15 Pro and 16 base are the same price here (Switzerland) from 3rd party shops.

If the 17 base has AOD then I'll buy it. If not, and the prices level out as they did this year then I'll buy a 16 Pro (as I have an 11 and I don't want to wait for the 18!).

Ive been doing Always on Display since my 12 pro….without looking it up, will you be able to guess? I’ve Neva seen or heard of someone doing the same thing and I do it for a very very specific reason..

Seriously, the more they crank up the screen sizes, the more I want a new mini…

Haha. What if (way down the line) they offer a massive screen that’s foldable with an outside screen as a mini somehow and it’s not massive thick…you biting??

There's literally nothing here of interest for me worthy of an upgrade when my iPhone 14 Pro works just fine. I refuse to keep adding to the e-waste pile of electronics just to be on the latest trends.

went from 14 pm to 16 pm and the weight alone is great never mind bigger screen, batt, AI, spatial vid/pics etc

Love my old traded in 14 pm but this 16 is real real nice. Massive upgrade. My jump from 8 plus to 12 pro was not big at all. I didn’t like 12 pro actually because screen was so much slimmer : (
I have a 13 mini and honestly forgot that iPhones these days come with a hole now ...aka "island"... the notch still bugs me - I think the hole would be an even more glaring design gaffe I would have to cope with. Unsure how or why the masses are okay with these "features" when they are mostly design bugs that Apple has spun to be a feature.

Island is great. Would re-enable it whenever they go full screen (except when watching movies or gaming)…it’s that good, I actually loved the old notch and thought I’d miss it but this island is even better. I’m one of the few that actually likes the way the island looks during a full screen movie, television show or game.

The camera layout sounds atrocious ngl. I feel like the 3 lenses positioned how they currently are have become such a visual cue for the iPhone, ditching it would be silly. Plus, changing it seems meaningless, at least the regular iPhone 16's camera layout changes were to add spatial video (which is great news for the 2 people who actually use that).

what if somehow this rumored layout makes it sit nicer on flat tables/surfaces?….could be worth the possibly ugly design (but let’s be cereal here, this is Apple we’re talkin…very little (if any) ugly coming out of Cupertino).
Will it support the Apple Pencil?

Very doubtful…they don’t want to take away from iPad sales…although I think it would be worth it since it would attract MANY of those android fans…
When I saw how little the iPhone 16PM offered over my 14PM, I decided to wait another year to consider upgrading. The only temptation for me was the better zoom on the camera because the 3x zoom on the 14PM is a joke. But that’s definitely not enough for me to upgrade and I couldn’t care less about Apple Intelligence. So, we’ll see what Sept 2025 has to offer.

You’re seriously missing out. Read my whole post if you haven’t yet..
New battery vs new battery... not really. It’s a component that degrades over time. I took five years to replace the iPhone 7 battery, and that replaced battery was giving me all day battery life between charges.

This was not even a 7 plus???…you must be a real light user..fascinating.

Even if this is a rumor it’s still crazy to have 12gb of ram just to only view one app at a time

AI, whatever else iOS is computing in the background…these rams do a lot and I’m sure have been doing a lot for a long time…

You’re over thinking it. Plus, my guess, Apple allows island in some fashion even when we can get full screen display.

Yes, "Fiasco"...as in, how are you enjoying that Apple Intelligence that the iPhone 16 was advertised with?
That’s an OS feature, not a hardware feature.

Oh wait, it's not ready for prime time and is delayed.
It’s not ready for prime time, as expected.
It is not delayed, this is exactly what we knew from day 1.

Selling tons of new iPhones with phantom features is not a practice Apple should be using.

I’m not entirely against that, but I never thought of an 18.3 feature as an iPhone 16 feature. I can see how you and others might have though, due to the adverts. This isn’t the first time Apple announced an OS feature wasn’t coming until a dot release, though.

Does article seriously list aluminium as feature to wait for?
It’s mostly a list of rumors. The title implies it might be a reason to wait, if you find any of the rumors worth waiting for. After all, the only reason to wait (besides your personal financial situation) is due to differences between the current model and the next one. I can only assume that a material change offers some advantages, or at least trade-offs Apple thinks most will appreciate.

But of course not every new feature is loved equally by everyone. Some here are hoping the camera bump is eliminated, while I’d be okay with it getting a tiny bit bigger if it improves the camera. Eliminating the bump *now* would make the camera system worse. Trade-offs.

Feel like there will be many changes with the 17 series. First off, the new Air/Slim iPhone will be completely different.

120 Hz on the base models will be a very welcome change. As for the Pro models, looking forward to having improvements to selfie camera along with the 48MP telephoto lens. Expecting to see 10x optical quality like zoom on the 17 Pro Max. Also the smaller dynamic island on the 17 Pro Max will be nice.

All this along with the usual improvements due to the processor upgrades and some new Apple Intelligence features too!!

The Sunk Cost Fallacy
You don't know the facts or figures involved, nor the analysis based on that data which was used to justify the change.

They are only treating us with incremental upgrades that are meaningless. Apple could have update the telephoto and selfie cameras for years but didn’t just to have enough new "features" for later generations.
They are running out of ideas then have to resort to this artificial withholding
If they are meaningless go get an iPhone 12 and then tell me.

And if you have seen the technical videos on the 15 and 16 cameras/lenses, especially the zoom, you will know that both are inferior to the 14. Apple actually downgraded their photo hardware in those 2 cameras and it is noticeable enough even if you aren't doing these technical tests. These 2 videos explain it well, once you get past the fluff - the tests themselves are interesting. Apple has messed up the mid-range in the 15 Pro Max and 16 cameras by quite a bit. 1/2 a megapixel of resolution upscaled to to 12 is a bit of a mess. Anyway:

and

This isn't Apple-bashing btw. I'll never touch an Android for multiple reasons. I just don't like to see Apple skimping on camera updates and adding a default 50% sharpening to RAW files - and even still having so much software sharpening in the RAW when you turn it to 0 - they should not touch the RAW files and leave that up to the photographer to play with. By auto-sharpening them so much, they cause a lot of photo degradation and for a $1000+ Pro phone, that is unacceptable, IMO.
Yeah. I mean the entire purpose of a RAW photo is to have a completely unaltered image. Doing any post processing to it kind of defeats the purpose.

The article doesn't, however aluminum is much better at heat dissipation, which Apple need to improve quickly, because with the AI, things are just going to get hotter.
Apple can't build a vape chamber, because of MagSafe

Unless much bigger cameras are incorporated, which would necessitate the change in lay out, however you have a valid point, in that the current lay out has become iconic with iPhone pro

Just rumors so far. Something more serious will probably leak around march/april.
By the way, as usual a year over year upgrade it’s a bad idea. Skip one or even better two generations is a much wiser idea
