12" Retina Macbook: 1.1 vs 1.2 vs 1.3 GHz Discrepancy

On the Apple Website it says:

1.1 GHz --> turbo boosts to 2.4 GHz
1.2 GHz --> turbo boosts to 2.6 GHz
1.3 GHz --> turbo boosts to 2.9 GHz

But I have read on these forums and on websites that the 1.1 Core M processor turbo boosts to 2.6 GHz and the 1.2 Core M Processor turbo boosts to 2.9 GHz. Why is there a discrepancy of information on the Apple website and what forum members and websites are reporting?

I am trying to see if the upgrade from 1.1 GHz ($1299) to 1.2 GHz ($1599) Core M Processor is worth it when considering you also get double the hard drive space?

The discrepancy is occurring because the q414 chips that Apple has got from Intel can have both base and turbo freq set by the vendor. Apple decides what it wants basically. The 1.2 and 1.3Ghz cpu are the same chip

I'm confused what you mean by the 1.2 and 1.3 being the same chip? Do you mean they are both Model 5Y71? If that's the case, why would they purposely slow one down and make one faster if they both are the same chip?

Yes the 1.2/1.3 are both 5y71 there isn't an officially listed 1.3 chip on intels site but the base freq of the 5y71 @1.2 can be changed upto 1.4 so Apple obviously moved it to 1.3.

They offer 1.3GHz as a build-to-order. Go under Tech Specs on their website and look at the configurable options under 1.1GHz and 1.2GHz.

This was the first thing I noticed too.. Intel Ark lists these chips with different base frequencies.. So I also assumed Apple was able to bump up the base clocks some for the new MacBook.

Either way, i'm hearing the 5y71 version is quite a bit faster overall than the 2.6ghz one.. I guess that extra 300mhz makes a big difference on the Core M.

On Apple's website, the 5Y71 is the 2.6GHz version (2.9 on other sites), while the 5Y70 is a 2.3GHz version (2.6 on other sites).
