There's a section of the Anandtech review on the display with qualitative observations and quantitative comparisons. They said it was the best display Apple had ever put into a retina laptop.

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with this. In some of the categories, the rMB display actually came out behind the rMBP display but was ahead in most of them. Apple could easily put a lesser display into the new MacBook as it really is the consumer product, but they didn't.

Then there's the issue of quality control. When the Haswell rMBP came out, many people on these forums were returning/exchanging due to light bleed issues and all that. Something I never noticed, only a select few will. But it's worth a mention.

Wondering if anyone here could tell me how big the difference is between a 12" rMB and a 13.3" rMBP. Is the difference negligible, or is it quite noticeable? Has the smaller screen bothered you?
1.3" is really noticeable for me. Especially if you have an iPad no matter if it's an iPad Mini 4 or iPad Pro 9.7" its just too close in the size of Macbook 12" The iPad Mini 4 is still much closer to the size of Macbook 12 than to biggest iPhone which is 8 Plus to be honest in square inch. But at least, Macbook 12 has really crisp and sharp display than macbook air

iPhone 6/7/8 Plus- 12.89Square inch
iPad Mini 4 - 30.02 Square inch
Macbook 12- 64.74 Square inch

So in fact the Macbook 12 is only 2.1 Times bigger than the smallest iPad
While the smallest iPad is 2.3 Times bigger than the biggest iPhone.

So if you want to have a portable extremely light laptop, and perfect eyesight like me get the Macbook 12. But if you're old or have poor eyesight get the MacBook 13"

I’m sure after 3years he already made his decision

After using a 12" MB (early 2015 model) during three years, I bought a MBP 13" TB last week.
The screen is a lot bigger and brighter.
To me, using the laptop without external display and extremal keyboard - the 13" is an even better working tool.
I miss the lightness and the sound quality of the MB 12".

But if I used a 13" during three years...I would have bought a 12". Change is nice!
And great to have BOTH options at hand :)

The 12" is a VERY nice machine, still great to use.

I have both too! As well as an air 2017. I wish my MPB and MacBook had the battery life my air had, but I go back and forth on whether or not I like the MacBook or the pro better all the time. I am just glad I have both like you said for whatever mood it is I am in.

Does the new Macbook actually have a higher quality panel than the MBP?

From the Apple "Compare" page:

I recently changed my 2016 rMB for a 2017 MBP, for more ports. I was not expecting to notice a screen improvement on the MBP, but I did. I don't know if the 2017 rMB has a better screen that the 2016 rMB, which is why I saw a change, but the above suggests the 2017 MBP is better than the 2017 rMB.

Very very noticeable until I find it unusable for work. Screen real estate is simply too small for work which involves opening of two Excel / Words files and placed side by side.

The 13" TB should have better sound quality by all accounts. How do you mean?

Oh I'm not worried about the specs at all. Just wanting to make sure that 12" is not too small.

It's not small if you have good eye sight. I have used it for over a year for 9 to 5 extense work, and I don't feel eye strain or anything whatsoever.

I can fit good chunks of text and reply to emails. If you need a huge amount of windows open and very large texts, I'd recommend a desktop computer with a 27" screen.

Having both the 2017 13" Pro and a 2017 12" MacBook, if I could only have one I would probably have the pro. However, I use my 12" MacBook more often and use it even more than I use my iPads. I absolutely love my 12" MacBook. Don't let the processor on paper fool you, this thing is plenty fast for most people's needs.
