So which tablets have you used with 120 to make that statement? Some people turn it off on TV's because it makes some movies and other videos look terrible.

The new iPad Pro and it looked incredible. This is a very important new feature.

The issues you're referring to on TVs is a different issue. That's interpolation. Everyone will see just how nice this new feature is very soon. Late last night, I ordered one as soon as I could.

Exactly, it's two completely different things. One is a marketing gimmick aimed at morons (sorry 🙂, the other is a real, tangible improvement.

My PC monitor is a 144hz GSync, used primarily for gaming, but for desktop use it's notably smoother than 60hz.

120hz is better for movies at 24p, because 120 is directly divisible by 24, meaning there's no skipped frames like you get with 60hz.

Sorry but going with your logic, a movie shot in 119Hz would show 1 frame per second on a 120Hz monitor. (because it is not divisible)

Ok saying a movie could even be shot in 119 Hz.......which isn't even a thing nor ever will be , proves your ignorance on this topic. I'm a video professional. So yes I'll claim some knowledge on the subject.

Actually movies will look even better because they're shot at 24p so now that'll be native for movies. I won't go more into it than that. You can look up more specifics.

But overall 120hz is much better for movies too

That would make sense but 24P movies can also be natively displayed with 120 HZ as well like TVs, hence it being the better option to reduce judder. My guess would be they still play at 120HZ due to most videos on the web being 30p.

Yes. Yes it is. 120hz means proper 24p playback. Currently all 24p content is subject to 3:2 pulldown to play at 60hz. Which sucks. Once you go 24p, there's no going back.

Wrong. That's nothing to do with the soap opera look (motion interpolation). 24p playback looks exactly the same whether you use a 24hz display, a 48hz display, a 120hz display, a 240hz display etc - when running at 24p. However, 24p playback on a 60hz display does not work as well.

Why is no one talking about this? This is the biggest news in the mobile space in years! Is it always 120hz, or just in certain apps? Is there any sort of adaptive sync going on? I'm struggling to find anyone talking about this for some reason.

I've been waiting for the 2nd Gen iPad 12.9" and I have to say I was really pleased I waited this release is awesome and the 120hz was icing on the cake. I think this is a big thing. We spend so much screen time these days and our eyes and processor/brain are highly sensitive.

I'm hoping this screen might solve a problem I'm finding over the last number of weeks. My brain is starting to not like scrolling anymore. I read so much on screen. I think it's starting to throw me off.

So much that I wish there was a button on safari that does one full page move (like cmd + arrow up) so there is maybe not even a scroll but a page change/flip like coin back or forward when browsing.

I think the brian is developed to track movement but using touch devices you must override your natural eye movement that tends to automatically want to track the moving element and it's jarring now more than ever.

This is as best I can describe it right now. White screens do not help either! A higher refresh rate I hope will help this. I spend too much time on a Plasma TV hooked up to a mac mini, is the worst kind of screen at 720p but I love it for Movies. Typing on it now and I'm looking down as it's so harsh to look at.

Combined with True tone I am expecting this to be as good as it's going to get for a while until we get reflective surface like e-ink that are comparable to current screen tech.

I'll be waiting a few months but once the review come in and I actually get to see one I'm sure I will transition to owner.

Until they are released and used your pronouncements are just speculation at best. From what you are pushing Apple using Promotion as the name for the 120 panel is very inaccurate. Time will tell.

None of my pronouncements are speculation. Whether Apple lets the 120hz panel be used effectively for 24p playback is obviously up to them. As I stated.

We already know they are allowing media to be displayed at 24hz, because they showed an image of it during the keynote. But 24hz is not the same as 24p.

Not really speculation given that everything we've seen, read and what Apple has pushed, points towards what myself, WilliamG and jonnyb098 have been saying in this this thread all along i.e. It's a proper 120hz panel and has all the benefits therein, akin to the "proper" 144hz GSync panel I use with my PC.

As has been covered, you seem to be confusing Apple's use of the word ProMotion with the ghastly Motion Interpolation that fakes (badly) higher refresh rates in tv's. Absolutely nothing suggests they'll be faking anything, other than the ProMotion marketing speak, which is just for "normal" people who don't spend their time bickering on forums like us lot XD

ProMotion 120hz was the reason why I jumped on launch day. I no longer feel the lag with the pencil and reading on the iPad Pro is a nicer experience. The ProMotion pushes me toward using my iPad Pro almost daily and is a big help for reading uni documents too.

24p (23.976hz) content looks amazing on the 2017 iPad Pro, and by far the smoothest motion you'll see on any tablet on the market right now. I know Plex DEFINITELY takes advantage, as the difference between it on my iPad Pro and on my wife's Air 2 is staggering.
