4.2". Not too big, not too small. Juuussst right. Pipe dream, though. Lucky if we see 3.8" outta Apple.

Yeah, I'm having a hard time understanding the article. So LG and Apple made agreements for a 4.2" screen in August? Would that give them enough time to mass produce them by the beginning of October?
If they were in the agreement stage, then LG most likely already produced finished screen to demo to Apple, therefore, yes, it is MORE than sufficient time to mass produce screens.

Who makes the 3.5" screen for Apple now, LG? Gives me bad memories of the LG Dare I used to have (shudders).

LG is one of the few, and one of the too LCD panel manufacturers. Them sammy, and AU optronics are behind like 95% of panels out there.

Big difference in business units.

nice find OP.

good researching skills :)

I believe this report.

a 4.2 inch LG AH-IPS display. i'm stoked!

Woah, haven't read this, wonder why MacRumors couldn't find this

i think MacRumors mods should take a closer look at this.

TheBell doesn't seem like some amateur site neither. Its a financial services website.

Well that's good news. I am using a 4.3" screen (HD2) right now, so having a 4.2" screen on the next iPhone would be great! I like the screen sizes between 4" and 4.3". Plus there would be little adjustment for me! Win-win :D

From a 3.5" to 4.2" Retina display screen? That's insane, and i don't know if Apple would be bold enough to make such a jump.

But i'm very confused as the translation could use more work, i'm not understanding the gist of the article.

I like 4.1" cause It would be beautiful good in battery and the perfect size.

I actually see this happening. If Apple shrunk the bezel space and can squeeze in a 4.2" retina display into a similarly dimensioned phone (or, slightly wider and slightly taller), then I might call this the greatest product Apple has ever created, and it would be completely justifiable that Apple took so long to release it.

But.. it's all wishful thinking until they release it.

Reach9, I completely agree with one of your posts though... this is definitely Apple's best kept secret in my opinion.

I'm glad I'm korean and can read the original lol.
I would say that this looks pretty legit. It says in the article that development of the screen was in the final stages. Seeing that this article was written last month I could safely say that (and hope) that the iPhone 5 will be out soon.

The wait is killing me!

Can you do a nice summarized translation then? :) Coz I didn't understand anything from the link

Translation:

LG and Apple has agreed on the contract for the iPhone 5’s LCD displays.

According to the industry, LG display and Apple agreed on the contract near the beginning of August. The LCD panel will be of the same kind as of the one on the iPhone 4. AKA a retina display AH-IPS LCD which will be above 300PPI.

According to a source from LG display they have finished developing the screen. The IPhone5 will have a slightly smaller screen(4.2inches) than Samsung’s Galaxy S2(4.3 inches) phone. But the resolution of the screen has not been revealed yet.

……… blah blah useless info we already know..

Blah blah lg might have been screwed over if apple invested in the Japanese company “Sharp” with a billion dollars.

LG will receive more than a trillion won from this contract (about 877 million dollars)……… excess info……

The iPhone 5 will have a larger and more high quality screen than the iPhone 4 and will therefore have a much higher cost per unit.

However we are not sure if this contract will be solely with LG. The iPhone 4 used LG’s displays for the beginning of production but started using Korea’s Samsung and Taiwan’s Chi Mei Corporation’s screens later on.

LG’s public response to this is that they could not reveal any information on the contract with Apple.

Ugh that was annoying. It has some really vague words. Hope this helps ^^

Hope this helps ^^

It most definitely does! Thank you for translating it!

Wow, an iPhone with 4.2" Retina Display? I'm.... astounded.

I have no knowledge when it comes to screen sizes and resolution and aspect ratio, so I'm wondering... can Apple do a 4.2" screen without having it disturb the iOS resolution or aspect ratio, and all the apps?

Or am I just talking nonsense right there?

4.2 inch retina display?! Sweet Jesus

What do you think the battery life is on that? :(
