I think this should be news on MR. Seems pretty big.

If some colored headphone jack can be news than this sure outta be!

This would be my ultimate dream phone, seriously. High end Android phones would be in deep **** if Apple releases this.

Despite all the claims to the contrary, I too would like to see Apple with a modern size display instead of one so tiny.

It most definitely does! Thank you for translating it!

Wow, an iPhone with 4.2" Retina Display? I'm.... astounded.

I have no knowledge when it comes to screen sizes and resolution and aspect ratio, so I'm wondering... can Apple do a 4.2" screen without having it disturb the iOS resolution or aspect ratio, and all the apps?

Or am I just talking nonsense right there?

At some point Apple has to move away from that limitation. Also it would FORCE the devs that have been too lazy to update their apps to current Retina display quality to upgrade their apps to new HD quality.

Yes. A 4.2" screen that keeps the exact same 326ppi density and 1.5:1 aspect ratio as the iPhone 4 would measure roughly 1140px x 760px.

Those seem like weird pixel numbers, so maybe a more likely pixel count would be 1080px x 720px, which maintains the 1.5:1 aspect ratio and would still give ~309ppi.

Let's consider if they take the screen to be the same 960px x 640px, but used it on a 4.2" screen. This would reduce the pixel density to around 272-273ppi. However, the 'retina' monicker is said to be roughly 300ppi at a distance of 12" from the face. The new 4.2" screen would be 1.2x larger than the iPhone 4 screen. If you did a simplistic linear estimate, then a person holding a 3.5" screen at 12" would hold a 4.2" screen at 14"-15" (who knows if that is reasonable or not).

Now if you look at the nice chart of pixel density vs. distance made by sammich (see below), you will notice that at roughly 14" or 15", the 'retina' term is valid at around 270ppi. So theoretically, Apple could still market the screen that way.

The point is that Apple has quite a few options that still maintain the current aspect ratio and would lighten the burden on developers.

Translation:

LG and Apple has agreed on the contract for the iPhone 5’s LCD displays.

According to the industry, LG display and Apple agreed on the contract near the beginning of August. The LCD panel will be of the same kind as of the one on the iPhone 4. AKA a retina display AH-IPS LCD which will be above 300PPI.

According to a source from LG display they have finished developing the screen. The IPhone5 will have a slightly smaller screen(4.2inches) than Samsung’s Galaxy S2(4.3 inches) phone. But the resolution of the screen has not been revealed yet.

……… blah blah useless info we already know..

Blah blah lg might have been screwed over if apple invested in the Japanese company “Sharp” with a billion dollars.

LG will receive more than a trillion won from this contract (about 877 million dollars)……… excess info……

The iPhone 5 will have a larger and more high quality screen than the iPhone 4 and will therefore have a much higher cost per unit.

However we are not sure if this contract will be solely with LG. The iPhone 4 used LG’s displays for the beginning of production but started using Korea’s Samsung and Taiwan’s Chi Mei Corporation’s screens later on.

LG’s public response to this is that they could not reveal any information on the contract with Apple.

Ugh that was annoying. It has some really vague words. Hope this helps ^^

Perfect!
This explains the article well enough, good job! Just goes to show you how much work Google Translate still as to do :p

4.2 inch retina display?! Sweet Jesus

What do you think the battery life is on that? :(

I believe the battery life will be the same as the iPhone 4's if not a bit better. The Dual Core processor will definitely help in managing proper battery life, and Apple products are known not to sacrifice battery life, so I doubt we have to be worried about that.

Hmmm, I'm trying to absorb everything in and expand my knowledge on that, but I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to fully grasp it. Still, it's nice to know that Apple has several options now, and that a 4" or even >4" screen is possible.

Thank you for the explanation!
