Why would someone that does not play games need a 128GB ATV? My 2nd gen 4K has 32GB which is fine.

The main reason I went with the 128 GB 3rd Gen Apple TV 4K was for the ethernet port since that is the only model that has one now. It also leaves plenty of room for all of the screen savers to be downloaded as they are quite large in size and there are quite a few of them.

Yeah, ethernet was the main reason for me as well. Also, the price difference is twenty bucks. Where else in the Apple universe can you get a RAM upgrade for so little money??? :p

Ethernet 100%

I don't and never will use ethernet in my present situation. I also don't play games so my ATV should last for years.

My ATV has ethernet. 2nd Gen ATV 4K. Its says so in my signature.

Nobody said you needed ethernet or that your Apple TV 4K wouldn't last for years to come. You asked why someone would buy the 128 GB version which is only available with the 3rd gen 4K (latest version) and we told you why. If someone wants or needs ethernet and wants the latest Apple TV 4K then they have no choice but to buy the 128 GB version.

Its says so in my signature.
1) Don’t actually see your signature on normal everyday viewing on an iPhone.

And 2) There’s actually no mention of your atv4K being a 2nd Gen in your signature

And 3) You’re the one who asked the question why someone would want the 128gb, if you didn’t want us to tell you why “we” wanted one then perhaps you should’ve rephrased your question 🤷🏻‍♂️

Okay so besides ethernet the CPU and 32GB of my 2nd Gen 4K should be fine.

I’ve got two of the 128GB models. The first one I got for the Ethernet port and it’s been awesome for my ATV in my living room. There is zero buffering and everything plays at top resolution instantly. The second time it was because the 64GB was out of stock. I still have two 1st gen 4K Apple TVs with 32GB and they are fine. No issues with storage on those.

I think I keep hoping that Apple Arcade will come of age.

Besides games, Ethernet and Thread support, another reason to get a larger storage size is Aerial Screen Savers. Just one 4K Aerial Screen Saver can be 1GB.

My 2nd gen 4K has 32GB which is fine.
It is perfectly fine (maybe even overkill) for streaming apps, but someone that wants the Aerial Screen Savers, 32GB would only be enough for a handful of them.

My TV is not 4K but HD.

For those of you that laugh because I don't have time for games I want to make a suggestion. Go to graduate school and play your games and don't study. The one I attended was top notch for the south and no one had time for such nonsense. Books, books, and lots and lots of reading is what you had time for the majority of time.

Okay?

Your question was about why someone would need larger storage, not you in particular.

Looking over all your responses to valid answers people gave in the thread, I think the question you actually have and the question you asked in the thread is different.

Based on your responses, your question should have been:

"As someone with a 32GB ATV4K2 that is connected to a non-4K TV, is there a reason to upgrade to the newer ATV with the 128GB storage besides storing games?"

Assuming you have at least a 1080p TV, the Aerial Screen Savers are still very large at 1080p, a 32GB ATV wouldn't be able to store them all.

Regardless of that, I am pretty sure the ATV4K downloads Aerial Screen Savers in 4K regardless of what resolution TV you have connected to it.

720PHD TV. How do I stop downloading these screen savers?
