I know lots of people ask about the possibility of a 12in MacBook Pro and someone will immediately dismiss it as impossible. Well, for those of you who are so convinced a 12in MacBook Pro is out of the question, what is your reasoning behind it?

If it's marketing, did the 12in PowerBook really sell that badly? I seem to see quite a few of them around.

Or, is it really physically impossible to fit in a 12in form factor a C2D processor and its chipset with room for USB, FW, dedicated graphics and a SuperDrive?

Also, what makes a 10 or 11 in ultramobile laptop out of the question?

Apple announced that the blackbook was the replacement for the 12" Powerbook so i dont think that we will see one anytime soon. Sorry.

It's not going to happen. Apple made the 13-inch MacBook to replace both the iBook line and the 12" Powerbook. The 12" Powerbook sold well, but it was in almost direct competition with the iBooks, so it made more sense to eliminate it from the line-up, make the MacBooks more comparable to the MacBook Pros, and make the portable line-up more complete.

The 12" PB was not an ultra-portable. It was a full-featured (ok..they tried) notebook packed into a 12" case. Plus it weighed just one pound less than the 15" PBs back in the day.

I do think there is room for the 10 or 11" notebook in Apple's line up, but that's a pretty niche market that's well filled by the PC notebook vendors.
