I've got the lowest speck 13" model from this year, and I'm not that impressed, it's kinda slow..

So I'm thinking of buying some RAM for it from crucial, only I thought the 13" could only be upgraded up to 8GB, though crucial suggests I can go up to 16?

It used to be that the maximum ram sticks available were priced at a premium, ie 8 gigs cost 4 times as much as 4 gigs. This isn't the case anymore, and ram itself is comparatively dirt cheap when you buy it off of newegg.

16 gig sticks are routinely going on sale there for as little as $55-75 on a regular basis. If the extra $25-35 means you may not make your car payment this month, get 8 gigs instead of 16. If that's money that you'll spend on entertainment on a weekend, stay at home one time and put it into your MBP.
