You can create an email alert for when stock becomes available in the refurbished store by using the following website -

US store direct link - http://www.refurb.me/us/browse/
UK store direct link - http://www.refurb.me/uk/browse/

Other countries can be selected by using the drop down menu, or just go to to http://www.refurb.me and it will probably detect which country you are in.

I don’t know how quickly it sends the notifications out, but the website is up to date as the current mid-range 13” MacBook Pro Retina has only just become available in the UK refurbished store and it’s already showing in the products list.

w00t new mbp has arrived. Now the true conflict over returning for 16gb vs 8 can begin :D

Still need to factor in the occasional use virtual machines mostly for IT stuff/school work.

Just return it and order the 16gb model. It's not worth it to ponder it as much as you are. You are wasting precious time worrying about it.

I think a lot of the pondering is coming from the fact its extremely hard to get a 16gb refurb atm. I'm also afraid that if i return this one both will disappear from the store for another month or so.

while I could easily live with 8gb of RAM its the Virtual machine issue as every post I have seen says to get 16gb minimum if you are planning to run any of those.

To bad i cant just easily exchange an 8gb refurb for a new 16gb unit at the local apple store :D

*side note I guess I should at least open and play with the one I got over the weekend. I was holding out thinking there might be a hidden restocking fee. Wouldn't it be something if they accidentally sent me a 16gb ;)

Well besides this one being perfect it seems to have the Samsung SSD and a good display without IR I think I've decided. I'm going to return this one and go for 16gb. Its worth the extra cost since these new models arent upgradable besides I could probably make most if not all the difference up by selling my old Mac.

Hopefully I'm not making a mistake by doing so and they start getting more of these refurbs in during the next few weeks. Can't really wait any longer then that.

Does your refurb have the creases in the upper corners of the screen in the black portion? You can see it with a light shining behind you or in natural daylight. It's like a line in the reflection.

You know I'm not sure now. I don't believe it did though. I'll have to try and remember to check as I put in the box already when I get home.

Also wondering what differences in the 512gb SSDs they used if there are any.

Just checked before heading off to the apple store for you and there is no creases or even warped glass as far as I can tell. Hope that helps.

Also while I was at the apple store I closely looked over a few rMBP's and didn't see it. Is it hard to spot?

Not really hard to spot. You have to be in lighting that shows the reflection around the screen.

I made a thread about it yesterday and a few people chimed in stating that they had it. One guy stated he went to his local Apple store and they all had it there. It seems like a lot of them have it, but a lot of people just don't notice it. It took me more than a week before I noticed it on mine while sitting on the couch with a window behind me. I thought my screen was cracked at first. I never knew it existed before that.

I have went back and forth whether or not to get a replacement. It's not really a deal breaker, but I am of the type that likes to make sure I am getting my money's worth for as much as these machines cost.

Likewise which is what pusshed me over the edge on 8gb vs 16gb. Defently plan to hang onto my next Mac as long as possible like the 8 years I managed with my current one. I can only hope to be so lucky next time!

I did go over the one I had with flashlight best I could since the lighting was otherwise bad due to rain outside. Store probably wasnt all that great either. So its possible I could have missed it. If its not a manufacturing thing i wonder if it could be caused by closing or letting the lid close itself with anything more then a minescule amount of force. I had a featherlight approach while I had it and only closed it twice. I'm sure you have been using the same approach but I can see others who dont care slamming it shut.

Also have to add I've heard the tolerances in space between the display and palm rest/keyboard area have been reduced significantly in the late 2013 models over earlier builds.

You will never see it with a flashlight or shining light directly at the screen. You need to be in lighting that shows reflection on the screen; not direct light. It's in the upper corners. One of my corners is more defined than the other.

Hrm well I guess I'll find out whenever I get my hands on another rMBP. The weather didnt help ironically. Also a little bummed to find out it takes up to 5 days to receive a refund from Apple. I took it back so soon thinking there might be a chance a 16gb version showed tomorrow.

Got my refund back early Monday. I expected it to take a little longer. Of course now I think my fear might be coming true with the late models drying up. I was pretty much expecting them to pop up ealier this week. According to refurb.me there hasn't been one avail for 6 days now. Even the original retina seem to be a little scarce. Only older 2012cMBPs on there as of now.
I'm actually a little surprised they don't have more stock due to returns.

You are over reacting. There will be tons of refurb 2013 rMBP's listed for the next YEAR. They listed new ones 3 times last week. They have been slow this week but more will be listed.

More so I've been exposed to the new ones to become impatient :D not enough to buy brand new yet though. it was an amazing jump from my 2006 macbook.

When I was in the apple store two others were exchanging new rMBP's. Then after I told the specialist I decided I wanted to go with 16gigs he actually admitted they've been getting a ton of returns lately due to indecisiveness. Its been mostly those who can't decide between the 15" or 13" though. Hence I'm a little surprised as these returns have to be going somewhere. Maybe some random warehouse apple employee is hording them all lol

Actually now that I think of it there's been a few other slow weeks almost biweekly since they first showed. At any rate I have my fingers crossed some new stock will show Friday or next week.

well this is weird I happened to be browsing/refreshing the Apple refurb store and am getting messages from Refurb.me about items being in stock at the same exact moment when they actually aren't there on the site. Refurb.me might not be all that accurate.

that is unless it sold out in a second or two!

I may or may not of finally got my hands on a 16GB model. One just popped and I placed an order using Apple's express checkout however after I did so the order didn't show up in the cart or say it was processed. I then again tried to add it to cart and nothing happens. Who knows seems apple ordering system is screwy atm

*edit looks like it didn't take as there's no charge on my account. Darn it was looking forward to it. My guess is it sold out the exact moment I hit the order button. Oh well on to try again next time. I'm determined to get my hands on one yet. Just might take awhile :D
