I just noticed today when I plugged in my iPhone to sync it, it told me that the capacity of my phone was only 13.60 GB instead of 16 . I am just wondering why 2.4 GB is already taken up. Sorry if this has already been asked.

There is space taken up by formatting of the flash memory, and then the installation of the OS. My 32GB iP4 has 28.8 GB.

Some goes to the formatting and some is used by iOS.

This is the case in every device FYI. When you buy a 500GB HDD, its never exactly 500 (unless its more like 530GB which is being advertised as 500).
