The 13" Air is obsolete in my opinion; I'd be getting the rMBP every time. Better screen, better graphics and CPU. Battery life is still great. It's just a better bet.

In fact, I'd go as far to say that the 13" Air is about to be phased out. I can see a 12" rMBA replacing both Air models.

My 12" PowerBook from 2004 was just beautiful. Give me a clear, slim, fast version of that and I'm all over it.

Just bought my wife the 13" 1.7 GHz i7 MacBook Air. It is $50 more in cost than the 13" 2.4 GHz i5 retina MacBook Pro ($1499). On paper it would seem that the MacBook Air has a slight faster processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.3 GHz) compared to the MacBook Pro Retina (Turbo Boost up to 2.9 GHz). In reality I doubt there's much of a noticeable difference. For my wife the main factor was portability and because she's converting from a non-retina 13" MacBook Pro, having a retina display was not a critical feature. If I were purchasing the MacBook for myself it would be the rMBP without a question since I already have other Apple devices (iPhone 5s, iPad Air, 15" rMBP) with retina displays.

So I think the bottom line is that you've already grown accustomed to another device with a retina display you might regret not having one on the 13" MacBook that you purchase. On the other hand, if you've not had another device with a retina display then maybe you won't miss it.
