*thumbs up*

glad to see not all ppl here give bad advice! :)

it would suck to use 4gb ram for the next 3-5 years. 8 is just enough. 16 is pretty future proof.

Blanket statements like this are nonsense. You're not taking the user's intended use into account. Saying you need 8GB of RAM to do email, word processing, and similar is ignorant and irresponsible.

really?

4 GB of RAM would be far more than enough for those uses. I'd save money and get the 13" Air with 4 GB of RAM and 256 GB SSD. If you don't store much on your machine, get the 128.

i call that ignorant and irresponsible.

Black Magic Speed test does not accurately depict ssd performance.
The main advantage of ssds is the iops. That's what makes them so reponsive.
BM speed tests only make a difference if you are transfering lots of files all the time. Who does this?

This pretty much sums it up.

It may not be accurate for daily operations, but it does provide a baseline for comparison. Somewhat like using a dyno to get a baseline, then using the same dyno as you add modifications to see any percieved value.

It is not ignorant or irresponsible. It's amazing to me how people can come here and tell others that word, mail, web surfing, and music streaming needs 8 to 16 gigs of ram. It's laughable.

These basic tasks run flawlessly on as little as 2 gig of ram and aren't going to magically need more ram in a few years.

Basic tasks will be fine on 4GB of ram INDEFINITELY!

Technology has plateaued, why can't some people get out of the old mentality where everything requires more ram?

pciE SSD with 4GB of ram on top of OSX's memory efficiency means that a base model will work for most users.

Some users need 8GB of more intensive tasks. Word, mail, iphoto, web surfing, music streaming and other basic tasks will never need 8GB of ram. period.
