I hear all of these rumors about 10.5" IPad Pro. Wouldn't It be logical to put a larger screen on the 12.9" iPad Pro as well? I really hope the iPad line won't be as fragmented as rumored.

If I were to wager a guess, I think they'd rather keep the screen size but decrease the footprint by making the bezels smaller, keeping the screen size.

Apple will likely keep the 12.9 as is, with the focus on this alleged 10.5 iPad with more of an edge to edge display. Eventually all of the iPad line will likely be OLED.

Lots of 12.9 keyboards and cases are going obsolete on amazon (uk at least) so I have a thought that 10.5 and 12.9 will both be bezel less designs revealed soon. New smaller footprint will be mean keyboards/cases won't fit. Just my 2p worth.

since the dimenions of current 9.7" are ok,Apple is right to make the display bigger to 10.5", but for the 12.9" next year Apple should adopt the 10.5" design but keeping the same screen size and make the ipad more portable, compact, lightweight

I like the idea of keeping the same 12.9" display and shrinking only the case as the result of removing the bezels.

Without the bezels this could definitely be an amazing product if they keep the same dimensions and shrink the bezels a'la the rumored 10.5 iPad. Honestly though, if it gets physically any larger they risk fragmenting the iPad lineup even further and you're left with a device that while nice to use ends up being a lot like the 17" MBP in that while it's great to use, the portability and weight will leave much to be desired.

I do wonder if long term they're planning for more 'desktop' iPads with even larger screens.

I'd like to see Westworld-style foldable tablets with > 13" displays

10.5" and 12.9" are kinda close in size.

Not really true. Even though 12.9" is 22.9% larger than 10.5", in terms of area you must consider the square of the diagonals. (12.9/10.5)^2 ~= 1.5, i.e. the 12.9" display is 50% larger than the 10.5" display.

It's the same issue with declaring the iPhone 5.5" being "almost as large" as the iPad Mini 7.9". In the case of the iPad Mini, even the 4:3 aspect ratio makes it larger. Even though 7.9" is merely 44% larger than 5.5", in terms of area the iPad mini is 130% larger than the 5.5" iPhone.
