the bb deal is certainly a great catch, but remember that it is only $50 or so less than when purchased from apple - assuming you sell your gift card (added hassle, I know). someone feel free to correct my arithmetic if wrong - I did it quickly in my caffeinated head.

Would you recommend selling it?
I figured Mavericks would be a good place to use it, when it comes out, plus other apps. Do you think anything other than Mavericks is worth spending the gift card on?
(sorry if going off topic here)

that really depends person-to-person... if you think you'll eventually spend the $100, then keep it. i recall selling mine last year. of course, mountain lion was a free upgrade for those who bought new macs prior to sept 2012. so far, apple has not mentioned that they'll repeat the offer - therefore keep the card to cover mavericks cost?. the fact remains, whether you sell your gift card or not, the bb offer is a little better than the apple offer (read, a tank of gas better). and if you go through apple, you don't technically have to be enrolled in school and/or have an .edu address.

i don't buy apps/music/movies enough (read, never) to warrant keeping the card. and the gift card only encourages you to spend money. you can also look at it this way: the bts gift card is merely a means for apple to make more money. i'm sure there's market research indicating that people ultimately spend more than the $100 originally given to them. no doubt, the gift cards generate more money for apple than the free ipods did.

Looks like this is still going on! 13" Macbook Air is showing $999 at least on their website...
