swait, so you haven't even let the battery run down? You're just going off the estimated battery life?

Or did I miss something?

Edit: Nvm, I should have read the whole thread.

I am very worried about my battery.

5% OMG! Seriously, batteries fluctuate all the time depending on temperature, use and calibration and the fact that not all batteries are created equal.

I happily get 6 hours under fairly heavy work and that's good enough for me.

Yep, my other MBP was 3 months going and still 100% before it was swapped out for this one because the logic board failed.

I have slight OCD and as such I removed Coconut Battery so I can't see my battery's dwindling health

If you have a 9CC2 panel, just use Shades on SL. It works perfectly to make the screen dimmer.

The problem with shades is that it doesn't dim the screen using the hardware (i.e. the backlight is at a lower brightness level), instead it adjustes software settings to make the screen look dimmer. The battery life problem remains the same.

At least, that's what I make of it.

What do you call fairly heavy work? There is no way I could get 6 hours from my battery under much use at all.

My full capacity is 4990 mAh.

Bluetooth off
Wifi On
Keyboard backlight off
Display brightness medium
CPU util at 5-10% (mostly activity monitor). No active applications other than activity monitor. No typing, no interaction.

System is consuming about 1000 mA. Means I'd get 4.9 hours max from it not doing anything!

If I turn the display brightness to the lowest setting where its still on but I can barely see it, power consumption goes down to ~800 mA. That would max out at 6.23 hours.

With the display turned completely off, CPU 0% util, not even activity monitor, no typing nothing, lowest power consumption I get is 711 mA. Then I get to the magical 7 hours.

It is really useful to say I get 7 hours battery life if the system is as good as asleep? No typing, no display, no active process is the only way to reach it?

Seems like more than false advertising... or something is amiss with my system.

In real life, I've been getting 3-4 hours run time in what I'd call medium to slightly heavy use. Not really much better than my 3yr old Macbook doing the same tasks.

I do have 4GB of RAM. Could the extra RAM be consuming extra power hence worse battery life?

Could the brand of hard drive make a difference and potentially consume more power than other drives. I have a stock Hitachi HTS545016B9SA02 160GB hard drive.

I don't know if other people's problems have been fixed but mine havent.

Every day my battery has lower capacity. When I started complaining my 13" macbook pro battery, full charge capacity was about 5349 mAh vs original of 5450.

Now its reached a new low of 4722, only 88% of original capacity with a cycle count of only 46. It sure doesn't look like its going to make it to 1000 cycles before reaching 80%.
