I'm a resolution whore, I love running high resolutions for the most screen real estate. What resolution can the rMBP 13" run the desktop at? Does it run adequately? Any pics? Obviously the cMBP is a little more bang for your buck, but the the 1280x800 resolution kinda sucks as my work laptop is 1920x1080 so the transition would be tough. It's a borderline deal breaker for me.

While I do agree that this is a relatively short sighted question, I will try to answer your question.

The 13" rMBP runs four different resolution "sizes", if you will. While the "Biggest Text" setting does not come to mind, the other three are: 1280 x 800, 1440 x 900, and 1680 x 1050. 1680 x 1050 is a lot of real estate but text is small and may be difficult to read.

Theoretically, you should be able to use SetResX and run it and a mind-melting 2560X1600.
