Anyone else surprised how the new 13" MBP became so instantly popular, in a way I am and in a way I'm not...

I wonder how many people who where considering the 15" MacBook since it was a "Pro" and the old 13 MB didn't have the same spec's, I wonder how many of them opted for the smaller screen/portability.

Same for people considering the MB Air, the new 13" MBP stole some buyers from that group I'd guess.

Lastly, I wonder if all the 12" powerbook owners holding out for a new full featured small notebook if the new 13" MBP would be a suitable replacement?

They were almost sold out tonight at the store, luckily they weren't. Otherwise I wouldnt be typing to u right now on my first mac. ;)

congrats on your first mac. but anyway I don't understand it in a way the specs of the old uniMacbook and the new macbook pro 13" are almost the same they have a slightly faster processor but the same gpu and everything else the only thing that really changed was the title lol.

I was at Best Buy yesterday getting my 15'', and according to my salesman, they were out of 13'' MBPs. They get new shipments twice a week and they sell out within a couple of days!

I think the 13in Macbook Pro is the probably the best selling Mac right now. There are so many threads/posts about 13in Macbook Pro. When I was at my local Apple store, I saw many people buying the 13in Macbook Pro.

I was talkign to a guy in Best Buy and every Best Buy in the Houston area was sold out of the 2.53 13" MBP. Seems pretty high in demand.

It's because of the price-drop. That and back-to-school-time = students finally able to purchase a Mac without burning holes in their wallets.

I'm guessing it's popular in one of the same ways that netbooks are: it's size. It's a great portable now whereas it's bigger brothers are great, just not as portable.

If I didn't have my macbook pro right now and was considering getting one, I think I'd opt for the 13", buy extra RAM from Crucial, buy an external monitor for when working at home and I bet I would still save a couple of hundred £££'s

FIREWIRE !!!

Well said. Booting from the SD card is also a pretty nifty feature. The screen is amazing now, the battery is amazing. The build quality and trackpad are better than any other notebook in existence. And, the price is perfect.

Win win win.

I have to agree. I bought the 13" MBP 2.53/SSD. This has got to be the best notebook all the way around that Apple has ever made. Nothing by Apple has been so portable, yet so full featured with a beautiful screen and a fantastic price. I love mine. This one's a true winner winner, chicken dinner! :)

This is my first Mac and i absolutely love it. Portability is great. I honestly thought going from a 17" Dell laptop to a 13" MBP would be a problem (screen wise) but that has not been an issue.

The fact that it looks better and performs better is what makes the downsizing in screen size not a factor.

The unibody 13" MacBook was also a big success. It's not like that product was a failure, and now the "Pro" model has magically transformed it into a best-seller. With an improved LCD, much better battery, faster speeds, FW, SD slot, AND a lower price, people would have to be stupid not to be buy the 13" MacBook Pro if they are in the market for a smaller premium Mac.

The unibody MacBook was amazing, except for the dismal screen.

So Apple makes you get the 2.93GHz or 3.06GHz model.

Yeah, I hate that. :p

1) I would pick the 13 over the 15 similar specs and more portable. If you need additional screen spaces an external monitor or if you need a desktop replacement the 17.

2) I can't imagine someone buying an air now. Whats up with no design update? Where is the glass trackpad and black border? It looks like an odd ball.

3) I would think many of the old 12 pb are getting the 13 mbp. Many of them before had bought the 15.

The 13 is a bigger seller. However all three 13, 15, and 17 are great and selling well.
