No, the only thing that really distinguishes the MB form the MBP, is the graphics card (apart form the screen size) introducing a 13" MBP with a dedicated Graphics card would steel sales from the MB, as i certainly won't buy a MB because of the card and if there was a 13" MBP i would jump at it, but it is Highly unlikely

It's here! The MB only lacks a dedicated GPU and ExpressCard slot. The 12" PB's GeForce Go5200FX 64 MB DRR is inferior to the GMA/950, and neither did the 12" PB offer an expansion slot. It'd be nice with a 13" alu. enclosure, but white/black is just as cool;)

BTW, there's been like 400 threads on this. Search the forums with MRoogle (see sig):D

Thats stupid, you are comparing computers from different times, the 5200 wasn't an integrated card, nowadays a dedicated card of the equivalent level from this gen of the 5200 would WIPE THE FLOOR with crappy GMA 950.

I don't think that a 13-inch Macbook Pro with steal sales from the Mac book. The price difference would be significant.

I used to think that a 13" machine is the perfect size for me, but after getting the 15"... bullocks to that!

The size is just perfect. IMO 17" on the other hand is too excessive.

I don't see Apple offering a 13.3" MBP, because as others have said, it'll overlap too much with the MB. I also wouldn't support a 12" form factor, because you are sacrificing too much (in my opinion) to get it that small, like a decent dedicated graphics card, expansion ports, expansion cards, etc.

What I do think is an option though is to introduce a 14.1" MBP. I believe that's slowly moving to be the preferred form factor since 15.4" is just slightly too big to be conveniently portable. And now, you can pack just as good components (namely a decent mainstream GPU like the X1600) in a 14.1" form factor as you can a 15.4" so it's certainly a great option. In fact, I might even suggest that Apple replace the 15.4" MBP with a 14.1" model to avoid having too many products. In terms of features you really wouldn't sacrifice much if anything, and I'm sure Apple can get the weight down under 5lbs, which is quite portable. The 17" MBP can remain as the full featured, luggable model, and the 13.3" MB will remain secure as the smallest, affordable model.

Why do people always bring up the point of stealing sales from the MB. Wouldn't this be a good thing for Apple?

And I also thought the 12"PB was a good seller. It would be nice to see stats. I guess if it was a good seller, Apple be offering a similar product. MacBook doesn't cut it.

Ah ha! It finally happened! You were all wrong!

Look now! A 13" Macbook Pro! And one that I can afford...:):):):):)

Reading some of the posts from these people is surely funny. My favorite:

"It will never happen.

Daniel."

Mine is in the mail!

Now let's go find people who said the MacTablet will never happen.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't you convinced, and telling everybody so, that no updates to the MacBook line would happen at WWDC? It is a developer conference after all. :p

Maybe so, but people change opinions. Plus, this is a rumors site, so we will always hear various opinions and viewpoints on everything. And we all know apple likes to change up the way of doing things to keep the media so interested.

I always had a feeling Apple was going to resurrect the 12" PowerBook. Unfortunately I did not think it would take them this long. When they introduced the unibody MacBook I rushed out and bought one thinking it was the 12" PowerBook replacement. Boy was I mistaken. The screen was horrible. I returned it within 24 hours to upgrade to the 15". I flat out told the manager at the Apple store that I would not pay the restocking fee because Apple should be ashamed to sell such a nice computer with such a crappy screen. She waived the restocking fee.

The new 13" MacBook Pro is perrrrrfect. This thing is going to be a HUGE hit. I have the 2.26ghz model and it is everything and more that I need in a notebook. I still have my unibody 15" but I don't really have much need to keep it at this point.

the 13" MBP screen is overrated. Read this post:

I can guarantee you that this guy did not calibrate his screen with a colorimeter. Thus, when he says the colors are fluorescent and messed up, I put zero stock in his claims. And neither would anyone else who actually knows about proper color management on a computer.

On the other hand, I have calibrated and measured my MBP13" screen with a colorimeter, and the results are that it has a gamut that is virtually identical to that of my 22" IPS desktop LCD. Putting them side by side the colors match perfectly between the two, and the colors in the photos look correct and proper. They match the prints on my wall exactly. My results are consistent with others who have measured their MBP screens with a colorimeter as well, and as we have actual data to back up our claims, I think that the MBP screen is exactly as advertised and not overrated in any way.

I received mine on the mail today. Well worth the upgrade from the Unibody 2.0GHz MacBook to the 2.26GHz MacBook Pro :)

Love the backlit keyboard!
