Does the 13" MBP play nice with LG 5k monitor? Any issues or lag?
Looking to downsize from my 15" 2018 pro.

Using a 2018 13" mbp (i5) with the LG works quite well, but I'm not editing music or videos at any significant level. Basic trimming of videos or doing minor photo edits doesn't seem to bog anything down.

I do see a little lag when dealing with animations etc - for example, when invoking launchpad, which I use frequently, it lags a bit, but not all that bad. Overall, the new 13" mbp is quite capable, but does still lack the 'grunt' of the 15" that I also use (2017 - i7).

I would never intentionally diminish anybody's use requirements as it relates to their choice in selecting the appropriate laptop for their use. But, I must say that I think the concept of 'over-speccing' is, to a large degree, an antiquated concept considering the level of computing power that has now become the norm (i.e., capacity has risen to the point of diminishing returns pending the next 'leap' in technology). Everything in someone's life doesn't necessarily need to be 'super-sized". JMO so take it for what it's worth.

Good luck..I love the 13".

Just don't try to set it up with dual 4k displays while using a VM.. I usually have the fans running between 60-70% just so it keeps up and the keyboard doesn't get hot.

Definitely upgrading to the 16" once it's out.. 13" has a couple of issues if you are an enthusiast user.

I have the top of the line 2018 13" (i7) with 655 iGPU. With no load on the processor, the only choppy animations that I see is with Launchpad. When at least one core is under load then all of the UI animations become somewhat choppy. The 13" can drive the LG 5k but it is not an optimal experience. I picked up a used blackmagic eGPU off of eBay to smooth everything out. It really does depend on how sensitive you are to these things.
