Yes, you can buy it after, but I'm pretty sure you can't buy it for the £45 it costs when you buy the actual machine. if I get the MBP I definitely wouldn't get a screen until september, but the initial cost will still be £1050.

The question is again, do you want portability or not? Why did you sell your iMac? There's no reason to buy Mini if you just sold your desktop so I would still go for MBP. Portability is always needed

I sold it because I thought I could make money (because of the imac were beyond my needs), so I was going to sell it, buy a mini and a display, however, after adding up the costs of the mini and the extra HD and RAM, and keyboard and mouse, the price comes out fairly similar, so i'm just going to go with the 13" MBP and then get a screen in a few months when i've saved up some cash

Not a big fan of the white ones, They get marked easily, and my girlfriends alu 1st gen seems very snappy compared to the black macbook I used to have,

Refurbed white one is a viable option. Get a protective case for it (as you should also do with a mbp) and applecare within the first year.

The difference between your blackbook and you're girlfriends's MB CE is the nvidia 9400 graphics card, which the newer whitebooks have.

Consider getting a newish mb ce off of craigslist, since (in my area) a lot of people are selling them at a loss to buy the 13" mbp's.

The lower price point on the new models are a bonus, but getting into a 13" MB CE for under 1K is a better deal. Still under warranty, applicable for applecare, etc., etc.

Getting a six month old computer is like getting a two year old car; you still get most of the use out of it, and it's already taken the largest hit in depreciation.

Which will perform best?

Which will perform best? A Mac Mini 2.0ghz with 4gb of DDR3 RAM, or a Macbook white 2.13ghz with 4gb of DDR2 RAM?

Also, is the burning magsafe adapter still an issue on new models or is that all sorted now?

No noticeable difference. Mini has faster RAM but slower CPU

Well I have both a 09 mini and just bought a 13" MBP, they both serve a different purpose for me but if I had to choose one it would be the MBP. Even if your only going to use it for in house portability (room to room, in bed, on the patio) and never take it work/school it is still nice to have. You could purchase both refurbished for $1498 and have a really nice dual purpose setup.
