So, i'm a bit confused
Are the new laptops fitted with 0.3 MP webcams, or is it just the 13"
Just asking cause I am getting a 15", and there are certain things that apple has cut which is swaying me from the 15" and just getting the upgraded 13"
Keep in mind size does not have much effect on me, as Id probably buy a bigger 17 laptop if it were the same price lol  and then bitch about when i have to carry it to school :D

Those are quicktime pro features only.

Looks like some bad news...

13.3" MBP, 2.56GHz, 4GB of RAM

Edit: I think that Leopard limits the iSight camera not just the software. Which it is why they made a big deal out of Snow Leopard improving the iSight's performance.

im just going to speculate that all native OS X apps just dont take full advantage of the 1.3mp digital camera and call it a day.

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISight

With the LED-Backlit MacBook Pros, Apple has moved to using a sensor capable of 1280x1024 pixels, but when accessed using provided APIs, the image is re-sampled to 640x480 pixels. However, Quartz composer allows access to the 1280x1024 pixel video stream.
that is all

built in API can't access full quality of the cam

Why do people even care about this stuff?? A week ago, everyone LOVED this thing. Now they discovered they downgraded one miniscule little thing that doesn't even really matter and now the world is over.:rolleyes:

I still LOVE it no matter what. People need to be happy with what they have, I am just here to help confirm Mac OSX GPU and OS limits the iSight to the 640x480.

So im assuming it is 1.3 MP like wikepedia said.
Only checking im used to using a 2 MP camera for web chat with family so i was a bit concerned is all

Thanks for the heads up from those who provided methods for testing the camera resolution. I guess we will find out more upon Snow Leopard release.

Of course we "Loved" our Mac, but there is nothing wrong for people who like to know a bit more about their Mac!

Why do we care about iSight resolution? It will be great video improvement for virtual conference both at personal and enterprise use.

Yeah, I'm sure people coming in good intention, I do need to hang out with friend instead of testing all these specs that Apple could otherwise disclose to us up front. If it were not for the discovery of SATA 1.5 downgrade, we'd all assume updated Mac would preclude most specifications from previous gen Mac.

Coming from late-06' Merom/Napa 2.33 MBP, 13" uMBP with (P8700 25W TDP, R0 Stepping, better display) unit is still one of the top choice under my pick. This would at least last me until Sandy Bridge (2011).

Thanks for bringing your relevant post to this thread

Anyway, does anyone now how much bandwidth is eaten up by 640x480 vs higher resolutions? Just wonderin.

Depends on your framerate and compression. In the case of the iSight in Snow Leopard, Apple's minimum requirement is a 128kbps upload speed. For full function, they said Leopard wants 900kbps upstream whereas Snow Leopard will only require 300kbps for the same performance.

Mind you, in Leopard, iChat usually uses 320x240, while in SL it'll be 640x480.

Hi,
now when snow leopard is aviable can anybody confirm that iSight now can be used as 1.3mpix camera?

Thanx!
