if 13 inch mbp and 17 mbp where the same price which would you pic and why?

I think the 13" is the perfect size.

If they were the same price, I would go with the 17" because of better specs of course. :) I would take the i5/i7 over C2D along with the better auto switching graphics!

Now if they had the same specs, I would go 13".

13" upsides:

•More portable!
•Cheaper!

15" upsides:

•Enough screen size for MOST users.
•More powerful than the 13.

17" upsides:

•Huge screen for a laptop.
•Very powerful!

+1 love my 15" i7 MB Pro, powerful and portable and a nice hi res 15" screen :D

Yeah, I'm very tempted to upgrade to the new one just for that hi-res screen. Really removes the only thing the 17" had over the 15".

I'd have to say 13" because 17" is a little over the top for me, size and weight using on lap, handling just a little too big.

I'm tempted to try the hi-res 15" MBP with the anti-glare screen but I'm too concerned about the small fonts ...

I like the 15" MBP the best. Its the right size, but has a kick ass CPU, the i7 and a great graphics card. However I love the small 13" I would rather put an i7 in there, and a discrete graphics card, and ditch the ODD.

13 people prefer the 13"

I have my old Core Duo 15" MBP, but if I were to get a new one today, I think I'd go with the 13". There's something very appealing about having a small, very portable, powerful (enough for me, anyway) machine.

yes.

17" Can be a lot for Daily moving, it's more easy to damage it, more expansive to fix if you break it and it's pretty huge in my opinion, I'd rather get the 15" that is in between, however i have a 13" and it's a really good size, very portable and the screen is as wide as a 4:3 15"

there should be alot difference in performance between a loaded up i7 17 vs base 13? i dont understand why apple does not have a high end small model like dell and sony, i7/i5, where is the updated air? how does the 13 inch macbook stack-up in quality/performance vs sony z or dell adamo? steve jobs said they picked graphics and battery over a small speed bump.

Best of both worlds?

A really good combination for those who want maximum screen real estate and portability is to buy a 13" MBP with ACD.

That's unless you need a large screen on the go.

Tim you and I both don't like to work from a desk, hence an external display may not be an option *unless* you set up the external display in your den or living room, there's so many small desks/tables you can buy that look good in a non office setting, you can even buy monitor arms that attach to your couch, lol.

Like this Easy Chair Mount - http://www.theeasychairmount.com/pd_test.cfm, now that gives you a much larger screen option than a 17" :)

I've taken some of my own advice and set up one of my 24" ACD's here in our Den on a little work station style table beside my sofa. Then when I want to grab my mac and go, just unplug a few cables and I have a great perfectly sized portable machine for on the go.

Best of both worlds!
