Anyone know if it's possible? I don't want to lose my JB on my 4S so of course I will not be updating to iOS 5.1.

TIA

i am more than willing to bet we will see a tweak come out allowing all those apps that say 5.1 only onto 5.0.1

I found an article online that allows me to install it by adjusting a .plist to say that it's 5.1. However it doesn't work. iPhoto just crashes.

That obviously won't work because there are newer APIs the app calls that aren't present in firmware versions below 5.1

There are new APIs used in iPhoto that are not available in pre 5.1 releases.

This is maybe a little silly, but I tried deleting all my photos and the app didnt crash.
Of course, not having any photo to edit it didnt go anywhere, but maybe this info helps, the crash happens when importing the camera folder.
:/

Found a couple of solutions from the Apple Discussion Forum and other websites; see if that helps: Run iPhoto on iOS 5.0.1.

By the way, I haven't updated my iPhone 4S to iOS 5.1 firmware because there's no jailbreak available.

I love the 1st paragraph

Note: We haven’t tested these methods yet, and these solutions come from the Apple Discussion Forum and other websites (linked below). Please be careful while implementing these workarounds.

why wouldn't you test it before putting up a article about how to do it!

I will definitely be testing it out later; was busy with college today! :D

Wrote it for others to try and comment on the post! :)

iPhoto501Fix on Cydia

EDIT: Warning! Cydia checks your FW version and may uninstall the Corona 5.0.1 Untether thinking your FW is incompatible. Check this thread for further information: Cydia Update Removed Corona 5.0.1 Untether

A tweak was just released on Cydia called iPhoto501Fix that enables iPhoto to work on 5.0.1 without crashing. You'll still have to spoof your FW version to 5.1 to install iPhoto first then install the iPhoto501Fix. Everything seems to work fine. I ran through all the settings and menus I could and no crashes.

I tested this on an iPhone 4 and I noted that whenever a new photo is added to any album or the camera roll, it does some "Updating Photo Library" upon relaunching iPhoto that takes a few minutes to finish. I don't have any devices running FW 5.1 for real so I don't know if that's the normal behavior of the app anyways.

How do you spoof your FW version to 5.1?

Use iFile to edit the SystemVersion.plist located in /System/Library/CoreServices. Edit the Product Version line to be 5.1.

Thanks

Anyone know what the cydia tweak is called that fools itunes into thinking your device is up to date?

Edit: the cydia tweak iPhoto501Fix seems to be working.

btw, this spoof also appears to work for imovie and pages as well. only played with each for a few minutes, but they appear to function normally.

Hi guys,
Do we first need to edit the plist files to download iPhoto? Then go to cydia and download that iPhoto5.0.1 fix?

Thanks!

yes, you need to edit the plist before you can download it in the app store.

then go to cydia and download the fix. then open the app. done

I didn't have to. I downloaded the app, then installed the tweak and it worked fine. Didn't have to edit the plist.

well, my updates that required 5.1 were grayed out and could not be updated until the plist spoofed my ipad into thinking it was on 5.1. i don't see how you could download apps listed as 5.1 only; while your system files indicate you are 5.0.1? but with jailbreaks and iOS, anything is possible I suppose
