Welcome to Photo of the Day. The POTD thread was started by iGary in May, 2006 and converted to a monthly thread in November 2007 by Arn. POTD is one of the most popular picture groups on MacRumors, often exceeding 500 posts and 20,000 views per month.

Photo of the Day is intended to be a showcase for your best pictures. There is no limit to your gear, just your imagination. P&S and film cameras are welcome along with DSLRs. There are no themes like the Fortnightly Challenge and Weekly Contest, and no winners (or losers) either.

I'll start with this shot I took while in Sydney last friday night... (opera house partly visible to the right of the shot)

Some parts of the UK are having floods, others have drought... and a few unlucky places are having both, simultaneously (and I don't even know how that's possible ). The Lake District seems to be getting the best of the weather, for once, so I'm trying to get out with my camera as often as I can...

Hawkshead church, yesterday...

While fishing I go around taking photos as well. I found this guy alone on the jetties during low tide. I hope he moved before the tide rolled in because those jetties end up submerged.

Now that's dedication!

Me? My camera battery died and I'm wondering if I've killed it in some way. I only charged it yesterday so it really should have been ok. I wonder if I've been abusing it in some way causing it to lose charge or not hold one... Bummer.

Anyhow, after impulse buying some stuff that's not Lego I had to take at least one picture. It's far too grainy with way too much noise but the idea is promising if nothing else. It's a bit too yellow too...

Experimenting with Panning

Originally posted this today (5/2) in the April thread. Re-posting in the correct month.

Took this at my son's track meet yesterday. Wanted to experiment with panning. Tough to do with a runner as you've got to deal with both horizontal and vertical motion. I believe finding the optimal shutter speed might be the key here, but any advice is welcome. Just a few more meets this season.
