Back from Thailand. Only an iPad was not a positive experience, waiting for the new 15" MBP. Here we go with a picture fortunately lacking smell: squid caught and dried in the sun for about a day before further processing.

What was the experience like with an iPad only? I'm traveling to the cook islands and considering bring my iPad to transfer raw files from my card.

Do I get overtime for this install?

I found this amusing and just had to take the photo. Thought I would share sorry the photo didn't come out better.

The iPad is ok for a quick preview of what you shot. I use the 2nd card for jpeg's and that card i put in the iPad. With apps like Snapseed or the more childish but usable iPhoto you can even do some PP, but it is a far cry from working on RAW files in Aperture or LR. The lack of an adequate file system makes it difficult to build a workflow for non-app bound files like jpegs. So yes, you can transfer the files but they will be converted to jpeg once inside the iPad, so I backed up all RAW files on a small external HD using somebody else's computer (a Windows machine with XP :)) and used that to import into Aperture once I was back home. That way I could 'clean' my cards for the next shoot, which I like to do. Next time I hope to have a new 15" MBP with me, as that will allow all functionality I have at home, minus a large screen, and still being lightweight.

Today continuing the squid theme :)
