15" cMBP 2.6/8GB/1GB 650m Windows Benchmarks

Booted up some old Benchmark programs today after I installed my SSD.

Only benchmark that would not run was Aquamark due to Windows 7.

More in the next post.

3DMark2001 apparently had a 999fps limit and during the lobby scene it was maxed out several times at that.

may i ask what sort of temperatures you are getting under heavy load or in games like battlefield 3? i'm getting crazy temperatures; this is my first mac (15 inch non retina high end) and the triple digits on the intel sensors are scaring me to death.

this was 15 min after a round of battlefield 3. the game ran totally fine, but am i going to kill this thing with temperatures like that?

Nope, it's fine. I've not ever read of CPUs and GPUs being damaged under normal use - there are built-in restrictions which automatically lower the speeds when things get too hot. The 2012 Macbooks still seem to do this, but to a much lesser extent than last years' models (yes that review is for the Retina models, but the situation for the standard model will be similar if not better)

It's interesting that the non-retina 650M is clocked lower than the retina 650M (900 MHz core / 1254 MHz memory). Guess the retina model needs the extra oomph. (the non-retina still has relatively high clocks for a 650M card - the retina model's GPU is actually overclocked).

i'm still very happy with the performance. solid fps in battlefield 3 at all settings high, never ever goes below 30fps. i have AA off and 8x AF. but the temps, they're reaaaaaaaaaally worrying.. my asus laptop with a 2630qm and GT550m never went above 94-96 celsius.

I think there is a distinction between the temperature of each individual core and the overall temperature of the chip... look up the top, where the temperature reading for CPU maxes at 77 degrees.

Either way, not to worry. Auto shutoff will protect against any damage.

please excuse my ignorance, but is "cpu package" temperature the same as the overall chip temperature? on another note, this is what my asus used to get - the core temps are clearly lower...

(1) Perhaps GPU-Z is wrong. If we can get benchmarks all done under the same settings etc showing that the rMBP is indeed faster than the regular MBP (and all the other 650Ms out there) then we'll know for sure.

(2) Not sure why Apple wouldn't tout any graphics advantage of the Retina over the regular model. I'm pretty sure that the 660M is just a higher clocked 650M - and the rMBP's 650M looks even faster than the regular 660M!

These benchmarks do hint that the rMBP has a very fast chip (roll mouse over the bars to view specs)

I don't know the answer to that... though perhaps the Asus is slightly cooler. No matter, both are perfectly fine temperature wise. Apple laptops have been running super hot for years.

I didn't check temps. But by the time I ran 3DMark06 and I went in order of oldest to newest the fans did kick in. Temps I am really not concerned with as like others have stated MBPs have always run hot.

This may be... And yet the 650M in the MBO is consistently outperforming the other 650M laptops as uk.hardware benchmarks linked by Moriarty above clearly show...

if you have BF3 or something that would be as capable of putting the same kind of load on the system would you mind helping me check the max temperature your cpu cores hit with hwmonitor? thanks in advance! i'm pondering whether or not to bring my mbp in to the service centre. 103 degrees is really, really scary.

I do not own BF3 for PC. Benchmark programs are free to download is why I ran those. Your temps should be fine.

While rendering a video in FCPX I was hitting 98C steady. If you are concerned you can always call Apple and they will tell you what are normal optimal temps.

It was as a joke. I wanted to see what it would score being I haven't ran a 3DMark in over 5 years easily.

Can you post any gaming benchmarks under OSX and Bootcamp? Wow and any thing else. It would be appreciated. Since this MBP will be pushing a lot less pixels, it should perform better than the retina version in GPU taxing situations.

I do not have WoW. About the only thing I can run would be Source games under OS X and Windows. Running Day of Defeat Source and Team Fortress 2 I get a solid 100+ FPS with everything maxed out at 1440x900.

iam still confuse about getting the new one, i don't have CC so i can't buy online and the last option to get the 1440 x 900 but i still doubt about it
