I went for 13"/8GB, because RAM isn't upgradeable later on and I'm planing on using the MacBook a few years.

I plan on using it for a few years so I upgraded.

4GB is fine today, but so was 2GB 3 years ago.

I've got my '12 13" MBA coming this week with the 2.0GHz i7 upgrade and the 8GB RAM upgrade.

Heard these things are pretty hard to upgrade yourself so i figured i'd 'futureproof' it in a way by speccing it up.

I went for base 13" 1.8/4/128. I don't plan on using it for more than 3 years, by which time I'll be tempted to upgrade to something Retina.

Well I did upgrade to 8 GB, then decided to exchange it for a rMBP with 16 GB. I guess I couldn't handle the idea of not having one after waiting since 2010. The rMBP really is a dream laptop, despite some bugs here and there.

More RAM was a primary reason for my upgrade. I did not purchase last year because 4gb was still the MAX ram and the other features (while great) were not enough for me to justify the upgrade.

Thats makes this year that much more of an upgrade for me as there is a large (3x) performance upgrade from the 2010 MBA (which is not nearly as big between 2011 and 2012)

More ram than the last generation MBA was my main reason to buy one this year.

I went for the 13/i5/256GB/8GB one since i just play WoW 2 evenings in the week and i need something protable for work.

For the rest i'm going to take the plunge in making apps for iOS so i need a Mac.

Mine is still sitting in Shanghai, it's gonna fly tomorrow and i hope i can get my hands on it thursday.

A lot has to do with the fact that the upgrade from 4GB to 8GB on all models is only $100. For anyone who has the slightest doubt as to whether or not 4GB would be enough, the extra $100 was a relatively cheap way to remove any doubt.

that and the fact this is online where everyone pretty much gets a BTO haha

In my view, the results thus far suggest the Apple Stores would stock more versions with 8 gb than just the ultimates.

the thing is, if you go in store and talk to 10 random people. 8/10 would buy the base model and not even consider the 8gb or know what the difference is. Most people just go in store, try it, and buy it

It surprises me that they don't, particularly since the MBA cannot be updated in-store like most other systems.

I am really put off that it costs $100 to upgrade to 8 GB of RAM. RAM is so freaking cheap these days.

I absolutely upgraded to the 8 GB of RAM on my 13 inch. That was the first upgrade I decided to get...everything else took a lot of mental bargaining.

I too went with the base 13 with 8gb of RAM. I love RAM as I had bad experiences with low RAM devices and plus you can't or incredibly hard to upgrade the RAM in the future and plan to use mine for quite a while. I suggest just go for it as its only $100.

8GB as I use a virtual machine frequently and wanted to limit page-outs.
