I'm carrying a 16" MBP 2019 (2.4 i9/32GB RAM/5500M) *and* a Lenovo Legion 7 (R9 5900HX, RTX 3080 16GB, 32GB RAM, 2560x1600 165hz) because I got so fed up with my comparatively weak and very loud MBP16. I also can play all AAA games maxed out in high refresh rate on the road with the Legion while also absolutely tearing through video in Premiere, but since I have so much workflow already established on macOS I couldn't stop carrying the Mac just yet.

I really appreciate the 16" size but I've ordered a 14" M1 Max top spec with 32GB of RAM and 2TB SSD. It'll be here Tuesday, and I really hope I don't regret downsizing the display. 3.5lbs is just so tempting, especially when the new 16" is almost half a pound heavier than my existing 16".

i'm going 14.2

i have both a 15.4 2016 touch bar MBP (personal) and a 16 2019 MBP (work), I hate the 16" it feels significantly heavier, larger/unwieldy. the new 16.2 is again heaver and larger than the outgoing 16":

agreed with this, I almost always use my 16 in clamshell mode its so big, and always use my air on my lap. I went from 15 to 16 now to 14. I can't see my self with a heavier laptop .

Hi everyone. I was planning on buying the new MacBook Pro. However I’m having difficulty deciding whether I should buy the 14” or 16”. I currently have a 15” MacBook Pro and mostly use it for Logic Pro and typing up school papers. When the 16” first came out I was definitely going to get it, but now I think I should get the 14” MacBook Pro. For those who came from the 15” MacBook Pro which size did you get and why?

Get the 16", compare the physical dimensions online and you should see they are the same or very close. So may as well get the bigger screen to make up for the notch.

I got a 2015 15.4-inch MBP back then as the 13-inch model wasn't powerful enough for my workflows, and screen too small. Now with 14.2" and equal internals I selected the new 14" model. Note that I work predominantly in clamshell mode and carry my laptop with me every day - so I think I made a good choice for myself. If I worked more frequently on the laptop itself, I would have opted for the 16" version for the screen estate.

One other factor to take into consideration is that the new 14" macbook has about an identical resolution as the previous 16" version from 2019. So if you use a scaled resolution in your macOS settings, you might get significantly more usable space out of a 14" compared to previous 13" M1 models.

This is why I went with 14 without hesitation.

I have always had a 15" for years and years. I used to leave it on my desk along side with my work desktop. Now that we sold our business and primarily do real estate from home I went with the 14". I will tend to use it more in my truck and I think I will appreciate the portability. My fiancé accidentally broke the screen on my 2016 15" about a month ago. So I have been using an extra 13.3 that my mom had at her house to get my by until my new 14 arrives. I am used to the 13.3 now so the 14 will be a slight upgrade for me. My screen is not completely broken on my 15 and I have had to open it up a few times to access some things and it now feels bulky for me. If I was doing any sort of photo or video editing I would 100% get the 16, but for what I do, I feel I will appreciate the 14 more.

The 16” will be just huge. I was at apple the other day and true 15” is just enormous. Couldn’t imagine carrying it anywhere ? for home use sure! Or occasional coffee shop or primary work computer. Other than that 14 for me!

One other thing no one is considering - the default 2x res on the 14" will be slightly higher than 1440x900, which is the default 2x res on a 15" MBP. So in terms of what is displayed it will be slightly more, but the size of the elements on screen will be slightly smaller. With the 16" the new default 2x res will be higher than the old 15".

But the reality is, if you like the larger screen you will probably prefer the 16" over the 14". I went with the 14" because I take my laptop with me nearly everywhere when working remotely.

It's really hard to downsize in my experience. I don't need the power or performance of a pro model, but I can't deal with a 13" screen. I would love if they came out with a 15" or 16" Air next year! In the meantime, I'm going from the last generation 16" to the new 16.2", mostly because I'm tired of having my thighs cooked on the couch.

This. I was forced to abandon my 15” as the keyboard was unusable. I went for the M1 MBP and it is a fantastic machine but the screen is way too small for me. It’s mostly on my desk with a 27” 4k next to it but when i’m mobile with it, it’s really tough.

Well I ordered the 16”. If I don’t like it I will cancel and order the 14”. My concern is weight mostly. The 16” seems as big as the 15”. I am mobile with it sometime, but think I’ll appreciate the extra space when using Logic Pro.
