She ended up calling me to tell me how apparently FedEx dropped a box on her iPhone 5 package and it destroyed both the carton box and the iPhone box. Her dad told her how the FedEx guy said that he could give back the phone and they would be able to give them a new one because it was their fault, but he decided to keep it to see what my friend said. She sent me this picture and it's all bent :p Judging by the white marks next to the volume button, I'm not sure if the box did that or it was "scuffgate" :)rolleyes:). Her volume buttons don't work either.

Since she ordered it online, could she just go to the Apple Store, or does she have to ship it back? I can probably get more pictures because I'm going to meet up with her soon :D

At this point, the best thing to do is just file a claim with FedEx.
 
Go into an Apple Store or send it in ASAP.
If you can't do either of those, call Apple Care and tell them there's a defect (hopefully they'll assume it's a manufacturing error). That way, should you ever stop by an Apple Store, they'll have a note that your phone was damaged early on and you didn't cause it.

Happened to me last year with cracked glass and Apple replaced it immediately on the spot
 
If you accepted an obviously damaged box you may not be covered. I don't know how that works but you are to inspect all shipments before the are received. I would look into that if I were you.
 
Only the shippee can file a claim, ergo Apple.

The recipient can, as well. Ideally, her dad should have refused delivery. But now that he accepted, there's really not much left to do. Try Apple, maybe, but they may say take it up with FedEx.

No you cannot file a claim. Go ahead and try. Fedex will tell you to contact Apple. Fedex is liable to the shipper and not you.
 
So, she just got off the phone with Apple and they're sending her return labels and all so that she can ship the phone back, and they'll send her a replacement on the "fast delivery option available." At least you know the customer service is spot on, haha.

He should refuse the shipment and get exception. But I cant blame him if he is excited to receive his iphone.

+1. The boxes protect the phone very well. I'm sorry but I can't trust OP's friend. I guess she might accidentally sit on the phone. :cool:

First off, your "friend" (funny how there are so many posts about people's friends who do stupid things) should have NEVER accepted delivery.

Did the FedEx deliveryman note the box was damaged on delivery? If not your friend might be up a creek without an iPhone 5.
 
My phone looks exactly the same way and the volume buttons don't work either. My box cam in perfect though. Def a hiccup in the manufacturing. I can gaurenttee u dropping it did not bend the Frame of the phone
 
The phone completely works minus the volume buttons? The screen isn't even damaged? I'd sell it on eBay as a prototype or physic-defying spectacle lol. Put up a picture with the screen on.

That was a dumb move to accept the package without inspection.
