My GF and I both ordered 15" 2.2GHz SR MBPs. Her's is perfect. My has profound backlight bleeding from the bottom middle of the screen.

Apple has agreed to swap for a new one, but since I ordered online (Ottawa Canada - no apple store) I have to wait for labels, send mine back, then wait for them to receive it before they'll send me a new one.

This is horrible :( I know I'll likely get another problem one too since that's how my luck works.

I just posted in another thread about how bad the 17" display is. Major light leakage at the bottom with dark shadows on the right and left sides. When I turned the brightness up, it looked like a spotlight in the center of the screen. I returned it and the one they gave me was no better, so I took it back for a refund. It's really a shame for this to happen on a laptop this expensive.

Sure thing. It'll have to wait until tomorrow afternoon though. Gotta work really early tomorrow so I need a good depression sleep before then :p

    17" screen

I have a 17" c2d, 2.33 ghz, matte. The screen is quite uniform -- the only issue for me is that the screen looks different from different angles, so if you're sitting 2 feet from it in the middle, the sides are less illuminated than the middle. If you move to the side, it's brighter and the middle (and other side) are less illuminated. I noticed the same effect on the new LED 15", though it it was a bit less noticeable because of the smaller screen. I think it was a bit more pronounced on the glossy screen.

Trust me it doesn't take that long I have done it 2 times already. You really shouldn't be worrying so much others have been through much worse.

@aaron.lee: thanks, I hope not! I'm just sad... this is my first apple computer purchase ever! not a great way to start off. I've fallen in love with OSX using it at work, and I really want a mac laptop!

@dhagan: matte screen. the GF's looks absolutely beautiful. very nice contrast, perfectly even, no stuck pixels.

I'm just hoping that there aren't tons with backlight bleeds. I really CAN handle the odd stuck pixel but backlight bleeding and dark corners are so frustrating.

You honestly should just be happy that they acknowledge the problem. I had a big fight with Dells customer support about my Dell 2005FPW's backlight bleed and since I only had a problem when the screen was dark, they didn't want to do anything about it. Not buying from them anymore.

But that's not the point. I'm not so much even criticizing them. The Product Specialist I spoke to was very understanding (after I got to her - first I had to convince the AppleCare guy that booting from DVD1 wasn't helping and resetting the battery didn't do anything... total of 30mins). She said she would love nothing more than to arrange an overlapping swap and just charge do a pre-auth on my card pending the return of the first laptop but she said that she isn't able to. She volunteered to have me speak to her manager because she said they were willing to do everything and anything that they were allowed to, to help me, but that it just wouldn't be possible to receive the new one before sending back the first.

I guess I'm mostly just worried that this is a common problem and that I'll get a new 15" LED with the same problem. I don't mind the wait, but it sucks to know it might well be the exact same problem.

I wonder if it wouldn't be better to just get a refund and swallow the $200 fee to buy from FutureShop where I won't be able to get the ~$200 student discount...?
