t-mobile is very popular here, so t-mobile might work, but not sure about 3g
probably need some carrier stuff from cydia

You can also try with att gophone, but i think that doesn't come with 3g
there are lots of these prepaid phone at local walmarts here in houston

If your phone is unlocked - no need to jailbreak!
Once you insert the sim card the APN setup is visible in settings - unlike my Virgin sim which hides these settings.
The settings are:
iPhone OS 2.0 or later
1. Select Settings, and then General Settings.
2. Select Network.
3. Select Cellular Data Network.
4. Enter simple as the APN for Cellular Data and MMS.
5. Enter http://smpl.mms.msg.eng.t-mobile.com/mms/wapenc in the MMSC field.
6. Enter 0.0.0.0 as the MMS Proxy.

When I activated & had my number I called via VOIP & setup my voicemail.

I tried to config my iphone 4 (IOS 4.0.2)

Goto Network Enable Cellular Data

Turn VPN to "ON"

I am lost after the next page ...

You must have the "Simple Mobile" sim card in the iPhone before the settings become visible. Looks like your home network, like mine, hides the settings.

Update on my experience:
"Simple Mobile" has been great in LA, NY, & Vegas.
However when we drove north from New York reception faded & went to total "no service".
We are holidaying in New England – Vermont & New Hampshire so I now activated my AT&T sim as described in this post & is working fine. The 3G is no faster than Simple's E.
AT&T have a new prepaid "$75 Unlimited Talk & Text Plus 200 MB Data"
However I was unable to find that online & I gave up waiting on 611!
