This has been Apple's MO for decades. Either pay full price, the edu price, get a small 3rd party reseller discount, or last year's discounted model. That's why the best deal has always been the entry-level MBA. That it's currently the M1 MBA is hilariously sweet and a huge win for anyone buying. Any step up in configuration or model after that and Apple's got you and your money by the balls.

Not the same as always.
Last few years they're getting more overpriced in every way and that's even for US residents. For other countries the exchange rate has made things nuts.

A common issue I have with the M1 Pro and M2 Pro MacBook Pro 16" is that the brightness is not very high. How likely will the 15" Air get a brighter screen? Is it true that in general, the Air gets a poorer screen than the Pro 16"?

You kidding? Maybe something is wrong with your unit, but I have 14-inch M1 Pro MBP, and it gets very bright.

Are you in Ambient mode or not?

I turned off "Automatically adjust brightness" and maxed the brightness level.

At least they are not as bright as my M1 iPad Pro 12.9"

Not sure that I understand your post. My reply was to someone talking about "absurdly overpriced prices", which I replied Apple has been doing that for years and shouldn't be a surprise. When I look back at 2017 models and their upgrades compared to today's prices, I don't see a big price jump - in fact some are the same (looking at the 2017 13-inch MacBook Pro compared to the 2023 version). Plus you now get more memory and storage (8GB/256GB) as standard. That's US prices though and I don't know international exchange rate prices that you note.

What if it's not a Macbook Air, but Apple bringing back the Macbook in a larger size and a new redesign. It would be interesting especially if they add new colours to it.

I do think that makes more sense. We won't have long to wait if there is an event this month.
It absolutely makes more sense and I have posted about it in every single article about it. I had the 2008 Aliminum MacBook (the only one) and 3 12” MacBooks, and overall, a MacBook is a product that should sit above the air (more power with a fan) and below the pro. You’re right, we don’t have long to wait. Fingers crossed

I’ve never had an Air or MacBook, I have a 2018 MacBook Pro 13” that has not very good battery life. I want a bigger screen and an Apple M chip, but I don’t need the power of the pro. This MacBook 15” might be just what im looking for, plus if they add some nice colours that would be great.

More than an air, less than a pro 💯

At this point an M2 would serve me well, and an M2 Pro more than enough. I just want that portable, with a fan, and a big screen. I really hope this is it. So much.

Additional: there is a machine that does almost this: the 7year old design 13.3” M2 MBP. This needs to replace that. It’s time for the aforementioned needs to be ina modern machine.

I have been waiting to upgrade from a 2014 15" MBP. I've been testing an M1 Pro 14" which has been decent but I am considering returning it. I do like the internals (16/512) and the ports and screen but with my use case, upgrading to anything from a 2014 pro is a massive jump. Battery life is better than my 15" (obviously) but nowhere close to the M2 air.

The toughest thing for me is the screen size on the 14". I stay docked to a 27" monitor at home but I travel a lot so the additional screen size is important to me. But I do love the display of the 14".

I wish I had a 15" screen. The 16" screen is great on the pro but I don't need it to be that big mainly because the overall footprint of the device is larger and heavier (and more costly). Also the 16" is a bit too large for some tables and desks I work at while traveling. The 14" is much better but so is the current 13" air. My 15" pro is about as far as I would go and so I would imagine a 15" air would fit the bill while being lighter and thinner.

The deal I got on the m1 pro 14" (under $1400) is probably going to be cheaper than what the 15" air will cost. I just think my return window will close on the 14" pro by the time the 15" is announced. Willing to pay a little more for the 15" but not if it's going to be a drastic delta. Are we looking at probably a $1499 price point for the 15" 8/256?
