Absolutely in love with my new 15 inch MBA in Silver! Previously I bought a 14 inch MBP in Space Grey last year, used it for two days and then proceeded to pack it up to collect dust for a whole year until recently when I found a buyer willing to pay my high price for it (resale value was about the only thing it was good for). It simply felt too bulky, heavy, and the screen was too small for all the reading I do for class. I went right back to my Zenbook and used it happily for the last year.

Fast forward to this new MBA and all I can say is wow! What an amazing hardware offering. This screen is brilliant, I notice zero difference between it and the MBP screen. Next is the speakers, tons of bass! I love how much sound this thin work of art produces while maintaining a clean look with no speaker grills. Its like all this sound comes out of absolutely nowhere. Where to next? Ah yes, the lack of any fans, what a godsend to have peace and quiet and no sharp aluminum chop your fingers off vent slots.

Moving on now to the thinness of the device, what a game changer. The Zenbook that I have used for the past few years felt like a supremely thin work of art when I purchased it. A really great hardware offering for the time, with no vents on the sides allowing for lying the laptop on its side without it over heating and with the same lack of speaker grills (though it had much worse sound quality than the MBA). All that considered this new MBA blows it out of the water with its thinness. It seems as though its whole body thickness is half the thinness of my Zenbook, which was already a supremely thin laptop. This MBA also features a much more solid build, less flimsy while being thinner.... its quite mad if I do say so myself, the device that is thinner is also way more robust and solid, its nuts!

It has its quirks (turning on whenever you open it, IO) but it is really damn near perfect, and a breath of fresh air. I can finally switch to Mac and feel confident about it.

To anyone else coming from PC to the 15 inch MBA or anyone upgrading to a 15 inch MBA in general, feel free to share your positive experiences here!

This latest gen of Apple laptops are extraordinarily well engineered. I have a 14" MBP (for work and because I need 2x external displays) and agree that the display's are comparable in quality. Some YouTube torture testers will, I'm sure, prove me otherwise, but in daily use it's really hard to tell them apart for general purpose computing. (Note - I'm not a graphics or video pro).

It has been a massive upgrade from a 2020 13" M1 Air for me. The extra screen real estate is much appreciated. I actually enjoy using it when not docked to an external display.
I totally agree, with my Zenbook and its matte finish screen (which seemed like a good idea at the time) it became enjoyable to use only when docked to my 34" Ultra Wide monitor. But with this 15'' MBA I am loving using it just with its screen alone! Its truly a terrific screen.

I appreciate the honesty, and I totally agree if you need 2x external displays then the MBP is the perfect choice. Truly though, these screens are very comparable and when I was given the choice I went with the 15. That should tell Apple something for sure. It offers up a very interesting question, does apple continue to abstain from offering ProMotion on these 15'' MBA's in order to help differentiate them from the MBP's? Or do they bring ProMotion in for the next iteration of them?

If they do, do people only but MBP's for better thermals, 2x screen and IO? Is that enough to make people go the MBP route? Interesting debate, but if I had to guess I feel like apple would abstain from bringing it over to help keep some depth to that step up to the Pro. Also, my solution to the 2x screen issue for productivity was getting a 34'' Ultra Wide 240hz gaming monitor which allows the screen real estate of two decently large screens, or three smaller screens in one.

since you have the silver do you notice any reflections or anything in the screen? (have heard a few complaints about this) but agree its amazing looking in Silver!

Nope, no reflections at all. That being said I will mention that I have not used the laptop outside in direct sunlight (most people wont though). But through all the indoor usage with LED, fluorescent and incandescent light there are no issues to report! Silver is shaping up to be the new Space Grey so jump on in if you like the look of it, no regrets here.

I didn't really write my original comment properly. I meant to say that I have a 14"MBP and a 13"Air. Truthfully, as a non-graphics pro, the displays have very little to tell them apart except under very specific situations. For general purpose computing the 13"/15" Air displays are just as good. ProMotion is a big deal to some, but it really isn't all that noticeable to me like it is on an iPhone and iPad (where it really makes a difference), and while the microLED does mean blacker blacks, in a well-lit room where I work, you have to TRY to notice it vs it being something that is instantly noticeable.

For me, if I could have only one it would be the Air except for the fact that I have two displays and I like to use both (with the laptop as a 3rd email only screen). That is the dealbreaker for me which pushes me toward the Pro. Let's hope M3 supports 2x displays...

Aswome, I've always loved silver... which configuration did you get in the 15?

I got the silver 15" Air on launch day. The Silver felt very retro after my previous Midnight 13 and various Space Grey models before that. I really like the silver. Also the 15" Screen is perfect for me and my "now into my early 50's" eyes. Larger icons and text on the bigger screen is what sold me on it. Glad you are enjoying it!

Don't expect the Air to support more screens. Not what the audience is that it is targeted for. And helps keep a feature delta from the MBP.

Glad you are enjoying it also! The silver reminds me of the 11'' and 13'' MBA's from the early 2010's when it was the only color available for both the MBA and the MBP. The Midnight looks great but my number one driver for picking the silver was the elimination of finger prints (which it has been very effective at!).

Had to go for the 16gb ram and 512gb SSD! Try to future proof it a bit. Are you thinking about getting into one?
I just got one, 16gb 1 tb that's all Apple Store had. I thought I would prefer the 14 MBP but I don't for form factor this is my 3rd 15 sadly, had two issues before.... yellow screen, trackpad issue, this one seems good! LOl

Did I read somewhere that there was a work-round via a hub? I'll go searching but has anyone info on this or a link?

I use a Targus DOCK310USZ for work with 2 DisplayLink connected screens. It works fabulously with my 15" MBA provided the DisplayLink software is connected. The only downside is that DisplayLink does not support HDCP, which is a limiting factor.

As an aside, if you use Sound Control to EQ the speakers, you can in fact get them to sound even louder, with even more bass.

It looks like Apple dialed the speakers back quite a lot to make sure they don't drain battery like crazy. But once you have applied EQ, the 15" Air can add some serious body to your tunes.

Anyway, yeah, I've really enjoyed my 15" Air as well. It has been an excellent workhorse for my 3D modeling, photo editing, AI, coding, and general book-keeping and documentation tasks. The battery life and weight have been highlights to me. It's finally a sub-4lbs 15" laptop from Apple that is competitive with the competition in size and weight, and it lasts basically forever while doing the tasks I mentioned above.

My workflow on the 16" Intel Pro machine barely allows it to last 2-3 hours now. 3D modeling is very taxing supposedly, but M2 has been able to eat it up easily, even when I connect an external 5K display and force it to work with my models at that resolution.

I'm surprised at how cool it is, same load with the LG gram and it's at least warm-to-hot. On the couch, instead of a gamer cooling pad with fans blowing, I just need a pillow. This keyboard is great. Overall, t's a keeper.

Related to the coolness I always forget how unusual and pleasant it is to hear absolute silence other than the keys and whatever audio I might be playing. You don't notice the lack of a fan until you never hear it. (If that makes sense.)

Having flip / flopped between 13 and 15" Pro's for years (like 2 or 3 each) I always complained that the perfect computer was the 15" with the form factor of the Air. So when it came out, I immediately ordered (24GB/1TB Silver). This is by FAR my favorite MacBook in a long time...probably going back to the TiBook when getting under 1" was just amazing. I have used it every day for work, traveled with it and been in all day meetings without even thinking about battery. I'm a software dev / business leader and for my use cases (Containers, Visual Studio, etc) its a really fast compared to my older machines.

After all these years, I still buy 100% Silver and probably always will.

Sold my 16” MBP and bought a 15” MBA and could not be happier. After 20 years of MBP models the 15” MBA is easily my favorite apple laptop ever. If I were a professional video editor I may miss the 16” MBP but on my case I’m so glad I switched.
What prompted you to switch?
