hey guys, im super new at this site but have read quite a bit
of info on here as to i own an iphone and what not. anyways,
todays problem is this

my 15 inch alum. PB i bought used from a friend. had been on
many tours so cosmetically wasnt the prettiest of the pack,
he gave me an external wireless pc card and stated that the airport wasnt
working.

i didnt mind it until i realized how bad this card sucks and plus its this
ugly giant sticking out of my computer! i hate it and went and head and
checked the airport slot...after realizing it had no card in the first place
i chuckled and went ahead and purchased a card off the internet.
i did some research and came to the conclusion that it takes the
Airport Extreme Card. it is still in the mail as we speak, but i rechecked the
card slot to find a wire(aka antenna i believe) and on the end of it is a bare
wire. im afaid that i know its not suppose to look bare like something was
ripped from it. so all in all in order to work will i need to purchase a antenna wire also?

let me know if you can help me!

dang! i knew it. now i need to go ahead and order that as well i am assuming.
i guess now the job isnt so easy? as to i have to dismantle the bottom half to replace the antenna?
It's going to be a mess replacing the entire antenna.

A picture of what yours looks like would help more then anything.

I can tell you taking apart a powerbook is not for the in experienced.

I'm fairly comfortable taking mine apart, but I get nervous every time I do.

lol yeah thanks. fixed it also.
and i hate the tone your using.
its scaring me.

how bad is it doc?
It'd be much easier trying to attach a new connector instead of replacing the entire antenna.

It's just finding that connector that's going to be hard. It's quite standard though.

Apple has provided the drivers built-in OS X for ages.

My money is on since 10.2.3.

so all in all, will i be able to buy that antenna jumper
and replace that? it seems that would work. i just
dont wanna take it to the genius bar cause it'll burn a hole
in my pocket. meh:eek:

crap

I have the same problem on my PB 12" and rather than starting a new thread I thought I'd borrow this one since pictures of the problem have been posted.

Any way to easily repair this or are there any airport compatible USB dongles out there?

I'm sure that Apple has the documentation on this but iFixIt is so much faster.

Are you looking to replace the AirPort Extreme card in your PowerBook G4 12" or something else? Is your cable damaged as well?

Yeah my cable is damaged the same way except that I still have the end that connects to the airport card. The wireless works fine when I'm right next to the router but can't pick up a signal if I go any farther.
