I've had my 15" MBA Starlight 16/1 for less than a week so it's early days, but here are my first impressions.

Everything seems fantastic. It's everything I thought it would be, and more.

Possible concern: trackpad. The trackpad _seems_ to have poor calibration and/or sensitivity. This could be an illusion and the fault of the websites or the way I use it, but here's what happens: on f.ex. Amazon's site, when I aim the cursor at a link or active area (such as the trigger point to expand a "read more" section, it doesn't trigger the behaviour. Instead, I have to aim considerably below the trigger area, as much as 3/16 of an inch to trigger the action, as if there is a mismatch between where the cursor appears on screen and the active area which needs to be clicked. Also: in gmail, I can't always select the box next to an email - the check sign appears in the box sometimes, but for some boxes it never appears no matter how many times I click to select it. Also: on many sites - I noticed this on my banking sites - it's very difficult to trigger the action on the "next" button to move onto the next screen when filling out some form; what happens is that it will trigger some other action, like look up the word "next", or highlights/selects the button and an area around it or some other weird thing - I try different pressures and different speeds of clicking (say, short sharp firm click etc.), and only after 5-6 clicks does it finally manage to activate the button.

Again, I don't know if it's the trackpad or some other issue with the MBA or whether it's faulty or subpar coding on the websites or maybe I'm using it wrong. The concerning thing is that I don't have this problem on my cheap HP 17" windows laptop. Don't know what to make of it. I am not sure it's something to bring the MBA to the Apple Store over, because it's a kind of generally intermittent issue and with my luck it'll work perfectly when a genius bar advisor looks at it. I want to give it some time to see if maybe it's me who is using the MBA wrong, or whatnot, so I'll wait before I firm up my opinion and decide what to do.

Edit: to add that I have not modified the trackpad in any way by putting a protective skin over it or anything.

Otherwise everything seems peachy!

How you describe the cursor position appearing alright while the click target doesn't appear to be there but further away sounds like web rendering issues, yes. The weird clicking behavior can thus possibly be related to something messed up with your browser's settings (perhaps a plugin?) so I'd suggest trying a different web-browser for a day and see if you encounter the same issues.

If that's not the case, switching trackpad thankfully seems to be one of the easier things for the Apple technicians and you're of course within warranty. So if you still have the issue regardless of software used I'd suggest booking an appointment. They're used to hearing "intermittent issue", I'm sure. Either they can see something when running diagnostics or they will just trust your word as you're within the return window anyway and hold all the power!

Thanks, Elusi. I’m not worried at this point, I’ll keep using it and see how it goes, if it seems persistently unreasonable behavior I’ll pop on over to the Apple Store. Right now I don’t want to part with it as I’m still setting it up, creating a home network, buying accessories and so on, so the timing is not ideal. I want to play with my new toy, dagnabbit, not have it spend time in the shop :)!

Incidentally, I keep reminding myself of my own advice to friends who get a cool new computer - don’t go wild panic installing random apps that seemingly “might be useful” and collecting random gear… all it ends up doing is hanging around unused, cluttering up the joint. Get stuff when you really need it, it’ll work out better long term… but who has the patience when a shiny new object tempts you :)
