OP can you expand on what you had to do to install Windows 8.1 successfully?

I had problems with formatting the USB drive incorrectly which was causing problems.

Thanks for that, please let me know how you get on with a large skirmish :)
That is exactly my problem, I haven't had the 2014 that long (I kept holding out hoping they would upgrade the 650m/750m and eventually caved as I was so sick of using my 13" as my daily driver) Now part of me keeps telling myself that I can get by with the 750m until skylake and hope there will be a cpu and gpu update. But also I would love that boost now! BF4 plays ok and Titanfall is alright on really low settings.....grrr its a tough choice

I understand your torment, I was going through the same thing. I was so set on a 950M upgrade that anything less was just not good enough. I would have still prefered a 950M but I'm happy with this new dGPU. Just I am playing WoT at a level now that my FPS was causing me to mess up shots etc that I can't afford to do, so it was either buy a gaming laptop, buy a new Mac or build a new rig and I do like my rMBP so I wanted a newer faster version. But tbh, the only difference is the dGPU with this thing, and while nice it really is up to the individual to judge whether or not it's worth upgrading.

Also I'm having a bit of an annoyance with 8.1 - while it really is nice (after installing Start8) I keep getting messages that 'You'll need to provide administrator permission to xxx' where I then need to click Continue with the UAC symbol next to it. Thing is, UAC was the first thing I disabled as it's just horrible. Does anyone know how to sort this? I never had this issue with W7 and yes I am the Admin.

My best guess is that those drivers are meant for existing Windows machines. The M370X is still a Mac-exclusive GPU for now.

Pretty much rules out all new games from play if this is what AMD are going to do?

Can someone explain what the drivers do for the computer in windows, and how updated drivers help. Sorry I'm a noob

If M270X is a indeed a rebranded m8870/m270, then the support should be in the driver. Its probably just the question of modding some info strings to get it to install.

It might be trickier though if these cards have some sort of custom firmware that changes the way the card interacts with the OS (but that would be very weird).

By the way, the latest official AMD driver (14.12) is version 14.501.1003, while the latest AMD beta driver (15.5) is 14.502.1014.1001. However, the version shipped with Bootcamp — what I find in the uploaded GPU-Z screenshots — is 14.502.1020.0000 That is quite weird

Bump

Where did you find or get the video drivers working, neither the integrated or ate drivers from the bootcamp install are working for me

Thanks for the boot camp heads up. Just picked up my rig today. Too bad I'll be out of town all week or I would get it set up.

That probably makes it a custom stable driver made specially for Apple.

Played a game two nights ago that I forgot to post. 4 players vs AI on medium, graphics all on high except AA and something else at 1680x1050. Barely saw it dip below 30FPS, wasn't the most intense game but was often in the 40FPS for most of the game so very very playable, especially for an RTS, so hope you'll find it solid too! Going from memory it does feel a lot smoother than on the 750M.

Wow, that sounds pretty good. I play on low settings on the 750m to keep it playable. I am going to try your settings on my 750m to compare. Any chance you can let me know which map as some perform better than others

It looks like the M370x is 25-75% faster than the 750m depending on the game. The 750m is 25-75% faster than the Iris pro depending on game. Given the 750m isn't that much faster than the iris pro, I really wonder why Apple didn't put in the 370x last year. It would have enticed more people to pay that extra 500 bucks for the high end model. Really odd!

Anyway, the 750m is just good enough for my gaming needs. The iris pro would not have cut it. I just hope that Apple puts in a 950m next year or equivalent. Apple really should be putting in newer GPUs in their high end notebooks.

Just spend a lot of time benchmarking World of Tanks - a game I play ALOT of, but I realise probably isn't played by that many people here. Anyway, I made around 17 different tests on different maps, in different scenarios.
Came out with a gain of around 28.9% overall with it varying from as low as 13% to as high as 55.5%. Realistically I was looking at a decent 30% boost, which I'm happy with, as that pushes the game from, playable but not really fluid, to smooth and very playable for me.

Can you describe the heating of the CPU and GPU during a game of WoT?

You must to create an image of the DVD (ISO). You have 2 options:
1) Find your DVD and create an ISO of it.
2) Use another computer with windows installed. Go to the microsoft website, use your key license and download the ISO.

All info here:

I didn't know you could download windows that way?
Thanks - best advice I've had in a ages on this site - and its for windows :)
