I believe the 15" MacBook Air will be a great product, there's definitely people out there who want a light 15" computer. I know a couple of people who would go for it instead of the LG Gram that they bought.

Regarding power, I'm sure even the M1 is enough for most people. I own a M1 Pro and this is enough power for me for my every day work and personal tasks (I leave gaming for my gaming rig running Linux with dual boot windows)

But for many of us, those fans are a downside
That's the great thing, we all have different opinions. One person's downside is not a fact, I find active cooling to be superior, you don't :)

Apple won't get it wrong if they provide a fanless 15" MBA, and conversely if they add one, its not the end of world

active cooling IS superior, for raw power, but then there are the Pro models for that already.
in addition to that, their (slightly) larger cases help for better cooling.

but passively cooled Apple Silicon Macs are by no means slouches either and offer comparable performances in most cases, unless you are frequently running sustained high loads, for which, again, the Pros are the better option anyway.

i'm not in the market for a new laptop yet, and i'll be good with my 16" M1 Pro MBP and 13" M1 MBA for the next couple (at least 5) years, but if i was into a new "Air", i'd hope it would have a premium (120Hz, mini LED or OLED) screen first and foremost. and of course remaining fan-less, because otherwise i'd buy a Pro instead
