Hi all,

I've inherited a 2017 15" MacBook Pro through work and I think the battery is cactus - likely from being plugged in all the time. I don't get particularly good battery life out of it, even with moderate usage.

The full charge capacity seems very low to me, can anyone provide any input on what I should expect to see?

Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro14,3

Charge Information:
Charge Remaining (mAh): 2620
Fully Charged: No
Charging: No
Full Charge Capacity (mAh): 5325
Health Information:
Cycle Count: 48
Condition: Normal

I'm happy to pay to have the battery replaced, but don't really want to waste the time at the Apple Store if I'm not going see a meaningful change.

Use coconut battery to see your battery health, on my 2018 it is 7336(mAh) design capacity, and I'm currently getting 6712. I would replace it tbh, but it's going to be expensive due to the top case.

Apple will replace the battery if one of your keys has an issue (stuck or etc). Something to think about.

See:

You should limit battery charging to ~50% when you keep it plugged-in all the time.
Having it charged 100% all the time is bad for battery life.

It was unfortunately someone else's machine so I inherited the dodgy battery with it.

It's not too much of a problem at the moment as it's sitting on my desk all of the time, but I'll replace the battery when the Apple Store near me re-opens. Normally I'm away from my desk more than I am at it. Things are a little topsy turvy at the moment though.
