15" is a lousy compromise IMO, bump res up and then I would consider it ;) IMO, 17" for work, 13" for portability. No middle ground :p

Well, higher res available now. I will now consider the 15" as being reasonable now :p

For me 15inch is ideal.
I go out and take my mac with me very rarely, so its slight extra size is no problem and when at home I have my monster, expensive PC to play games or perform any tasks I consider my mac is unfit for. Although I have the PC I still prefer to use my mac for all my usual tasks-browsing, WP, all my finances, calendar and diary, music, everything really and so it is great to be able to take it from my desk to the coffee table when sat before the television and then to my bedside table of an evening to watch films and do a little work.

And did I mention how awesome my first ever mac is?
After nearly 30 years of computer ownership (I am 35) I keep thinking why the devil did I not buy one years ago. Instead of 5 days ago.

So i think the 15inch size has some advantages

doktordoris, it sounds like you bought right before today's refresh. So you know, you have a 14 day window where you can return your computer, and get the new model: http://www.apple.com/legal/sales_policies/retail_us.html

And thanks for this thread guys. It's been really helpful. I was considering getting a new 17" to replace my late 2006 15". Especially since a high res 15 is about the same price as a 17, but the 17 feels just too big.

+1. Tried them all - keep coming back to the 15". Portable enough that it's not a burden, powerful enough that it meets my needs.
I have bounced back as well between 15 and 13. Extra screen real estate is 100% worth it. Plus the 15" MBP is pretty thin and light.

Actually no I can't, for 2 reasons, My mac was BTO simply because it had iWork installed when I bought it (because the chappie on the 'phone from apple when i bought it gave me iWork and a remote control for free).
And also becuase I bought it on apple store credit.

I knew the new machines were coming out when I ordered mine 2 and a half weeks ago but I decided a mac would be worth owning whatever and they hold their value amazingly well so when I get a new one an old machine would still be worth a good bit.
